Ok, we're getting warmer... This '65 Rattler has ONE mainspring, even if it's supposed to have two. Tightening the tensioning screw made it strong enough to ignite a primed casing, barely. It's still wimpy. I bet my friendly gunsmith, who disassembled and reassembled it for 8 months without finding ...

One to mount the hammer springs to the tang, the other that comes up from the bottom to tension the springs.
No, but someone else might have, when he had it... I'll check.

I got my '65 Win 94 modified link installed, and it works very well, thank you Tycer! Griff, I did not need to buy a new carrier; using the original link solved the sticking carrier problem, and there is no apparent wear. However, the hammer drop is wimpy... it won't ignite the primer. The trigger/h...

If that's the case (parts mismatch), then on Monday I'll get my welder to do to the 1965 link what he did to the pre-64 link, and all should be well!

Meanwhile I'll disassemble the Rattler, remove the incompatible part, and buy the parts that Griff listed.

Thanks!

94 Repair Year Two: stuck carrier

Last year, I took my Rattler 94, a 1965 Winchester 30 WCF, to my gunsmith with an under-the-carrier jam. He sat on it for eight months, and finally admitted that he did not like working on 94s. Tycer bailed me out, by loaning me a 30-30 link and explaining the fix. This week, I got a welder to add a...

200 gr spire point for 300 Savage?

Has anyone has success with a 200 grain spire point for 300 Savage? Last year, I made a couple of dozen rounds using a 200 grain cast bullet. The bullet itself is no longer than a 170 grain spire point, so it did not have to be seated any deeper, and it fed well. IIRC, I loaded it with about 36 grai...

rusty old Marlin 336TS... value?

Can anyone hazard a guess as to what a Marlin 336TS 30-30 with rust spots on the receiver, poor finish on wood (small dings & scratches), but smooth action and a good bore, would be worth? Completed auctions of 336 Texans in good shape on GB have gone for $325 to $425. I suppose with this one, i...

I need a new gunsmith... for the last several months, he has had my Win94, which was having under-the-carrier-jams. He says he can't get parts, and the parts that are delivered are the wrong ones. He thinks Winchester parts have been bought up, creating a shortage and raising prices. I finally asked...
