If your rifle is Drilled and Tapped for it, I would definitely go with the side mount Williams or Lyman peeps like Joe and Hobie has suggested. Well, I can't give you a report on how it works for deer as I can't deer hunt with a rifle in Illinois, but the Federal AE 158gr JSP has performed well out of my Marlin. It feeds smoothly and is very accurate. And it has worked well on yotes and groundhogs.

I personally like to see 2" or better groups at 25yds from a rest. Thats what gives me the confidence to hunt small game with my .22s.

In keeping with the OP thoughts and for whatever reason I had to go to just one gun and one gun only, my choice has not changed in at least the last 20yrs or so. I would undoubtably go with a .22 rifle, probably my 39A.

I got sick and tired of dial-up, got to be unreliable and oh so slow, became almost unusable. Cable or DSL not available, I went with Verison Wireless, can use it on either my laptop or desktop. About 3 times the cost of dial up, but oh so worth it.
