The perfect packing pistol revisited

Post by rjohns94 »

A while back, I posted a topic on Taffins article on packing pistol:

http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... lit=taffin

And KirkD posted a topic on his Colt SAA and I had another topic on this subject too.

Well, back then, I said I had ordered a FA in 45 Colt and 45 acp.

Well it arrived today and wow is it ever awesome. I am going to wait until the sun comes up to take pictures. Model 97, Octagon barrel, adjustable sights, fluted cylinder, 4 1/4 inch barrel, Ivory micarta grips, and the test target is a clover leaf. The 45 acp cylinder is so very kewl. This one matches my .475 Linebaugh. I can not believe how light and well balanced this beauty is.

Sounds like a nice one Mike.

Will look forward to the pics.

Can't wait to see the pics, Mike. I'd love to get a FA 97 myself.

You didn't say in your post whether your FA is a model 97 or 83. I'm assuming it's a model 97, and for that I envy you, sir. FA makes a fine firearm no matter what model you get, but the 97 just makes me feel tingly all over. That is my dream packing pistol. Whichever one you chose, I'm sure you will be happy with. Congrats.

Very Nice Mike!
Remember reading in one of my gun mags they tested a FA 97 and it had at 100yds unreal accuracy.
If I remember right with it being a 5 shot group off the bench(think the handgun had a Leupold 4X scope on it) the group was .83 MOA (thats fine rifle accuracy)

Okay Mike...here's the deal  because of the cathartic "sharing" and "redistribution of wealth" that is "de rigeur" nowadays... ....I think the only appropriate thing for you to do is "redistribute" that lovely item on a "draw" basis so that each of your compadre's, here, may "share" in your good fortune!

'Sides...I want one and I kain't afford it!

Gol Dang...that sum bitch is beautiful...... congratulations!

That's an absolutely gorgeous piece. No matter which carbine you carry you would always have a backup piece.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

That is a work of art! Very nice.
Kirk: An old geezer who loves the smell of freshly turned earth, old cedar rail fences, wood smoke, a crackling fireplace on a snowy evening, pristine wilderness lakes, the scent of
cedars and a magnificent Whitetail buck framed in the semi-buckhorn sights of a 120-year old Winchester.

Very nice, I especially like the ivory micarta and the octagon, a real eye catcher.
I'm luck enough to own one, a model 97 .357, and just barely smart enough to hang on to it over the past years when I let so many good guns go.
I'm thinking of sending it in for a .38 Super cylinder if they'll do it, or 9mm if they won't.
