Thanks all! I guessed it was a bear, but this was in southwest Reno in an established neighborhood far from what I would think of as bear habitat. Bear either traversed several miles of open dirt/sagebrush or worked its way through neighborhoods. There’s no public transit nearby, so I have ruled out...

All, I figured someone here with the right experience might be able to identify this scat that a relative found on their property. Dollar bill is for scale. In my experience, yes, absolutely. I was rabbit hunting years ago with a Winchester 9422M and put it in a foam lined case after the morning hunt. When I took it out in the evening I could see very faint rust spots everywhere. I immediately cleaned and oiled it and could no longer see the tiny rust s...

Several years ago I took a doe at about 25 yards with a pre-safety Marlin shooting a relatively hot handload with 158gr jacketed flat points. I used flat points because I had read warnings about jacketed hollow points “blowing up” on deer instead of penetrating. At the shot I saw a large plume of di...

My 1894S is doing the same thing. Lost track of how many different loads I tried. In a different thread on accuracy, it was suggested that in cases like this you can take everything off forward of the receiver except the barrel and check for accuracy again. I did just that and the rifle shot about a...

GunnyMack, My Henry 44 Carbine came in today, so I headed to the range in the afternoon after a quick cleaning. Pretty much all good news - the bore looks great (although I was surprised to see what looked more like microgroove rifling) and it shot great too. First group of three rounds was 7/8"...

Nice! Looks like you got a good one after all.
You had me a bit worried. I have a Big Boy Steel Carbine in 44Mag on the way to replace a Marlin that shoots no better than the first groups you were getting. If the new Henry shoots as well as yours I will be very happy.

I am considering getting a Henry steel carbine in 44 Mag, so your post got my attention. Based on your short description, it sounds more like the rifle isn't grouping as opposed to the point of impact shifting. The fouled barrel is interesting as well. You said you were shooting Berry bullets, which...

I've had one for a few years. It's OK, but I think there is still room for someone to invent a better way. Any idea what produced the crescent shaped marks on targets 3 and 4? The last time I saw something like that, I was shooting 350gr Rainier plated bullets out of a 500 S&W. Asking around, the answer I got was that the marks were created by a piece of the plating hanging off because I was pushing ...

The KEY, I think, is to cover the FACE and to not have big eyes, aka glasses. I have thought the same thing for some time. Someone mentioned that the F-111 had a pod that was ejected. The SR-71 also ejected the pilot's "pod". You might be thinking of the XB-70 or the B-58, which had seats that encapsulated the pilots before ejection. The SR-71 had more normal ejection seats. As bad as ejecting from an SR-71 s...

I think they did have a number of problems, but probably not the one you are referring to. The F-104 shot the pilot out the bottom instead of the top.I`m thinking it was the 104`s that had ejection issues.

Something is definitely wrong here! As pointed out above, the 15gr of w296 (maximum) was worked out long ago. If you can't fit that in a 30 carbine case then there are either problems with the cases, the powder, or the methods you are using to weigh the powder. Any of the above can hurt you. I have ...

Before you write a check for the Glock 19, do a search on "Gen 4 Glock 19 problems". They have had some problems with the Gen 4 19s but not with the Gen 3s. I'm not sure if they have resolved those problems yet. I believe you can still get either the Gen 3 or Gen 4 at this time.

Another one you should take a look at is the Walther PPQ. It is essentially a Glock 19 with a better grip, better workmanship, and a better trigger (all my opinions of course).
