I don't know about Jerry's, but Williams in Flint is definately good. Jays Sporting Goods in Clare is top notch to this day still. They opened a second shop in Gaylord and still maintain the same quality service.

Dead soft lead Lee 405gr. cast hot. Spg lube. 62gr. Goex2f compressed just enough to thumb seat bullet just above top grease groove, Light crimp. Just to keep bullet from moving. Go through the action without a hitch and shoot 3" @ 100 all day long. Kills em dead. Don't know fps, could care less.

Bulldog pretty well hit it on the head. The Garcias all went for $60 to $80 apiece in the 80's. That Penn levelmatic would have gone for in the $75 bracket in the mid-70's. It's a salt-water quality reel, a really nicely made piece.

I use three powders. H-4895 for mid-power loads, and H-4198 for full power loads. Question, if you were to have the serial #engraved, lets say, on the bottom tang, or on the left front bottom of the receiver before drilling for a Marbles sight, would it be illegal?

I received a Hornady advertisement DVD last week with all their new products. They show the 338 on there. They talk about all the downrange thump it has, and by what I could see, the reverse was true at the shooter's end also. Doesn't seem it will be all bad if your used to shooting 336EER's in .356...

Regan Nonneman does good work for a very reasonable price. He's done a couple things for me, and I was very happy with the price for work ratio. I believe an honest job for honest money. I think you'll see he's a bit less expensive than the rest of these fellas.

Yep, I think you can do the same velocities with Hornady roundnoses and healthy doses of 4198. So that's what shooting a Turnbull is like!

Good point. I can't answer that. I often wonder because in the articles I have read about loading that particular bullet, none of them even mention neck turning the cases. It seems that if that were the case, the situation would get more attention than it does. I think I'll email Marshall and ask him.

All the .444's now have the faster twist with the ballard rifling. Mine is about 5 years old with the faster twist.

I don't know exactly when they dropped the micro-groove.

Beartooth shows a 405 gr. bullet handloaded at over 1850 fps with a 22" barrel and RL-7. No slouch there. FYI - Buffalo Bore lists a .45-70 - 430 gr. LBT @ 1,925 fps for one of their penetrator loads for game up to 2,500 lbs. I'd be willing to bet there's very little difference in terminal fiel...
