North South Skirmish Winchester Virginia
Made a trip to Winchester Virginia to see the North South Skirmish folks have an artillary competition !
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !
Re: North South Skirmish Winchester Virginia
I'm not sure how many of the cannon were originals !
But I'm pretty sure this bronze one was !
This one was waiting for the second relay !
The man in this picture is the gentleman who twisted my arm last month and took me down to the Virginia Flintlock maker in Ruther Glenn ! It was also his idea to go to Winchester !
Personally I think he enjoys getting me intrested in things I've never done and getting me to spend money

The following pictures were taken inside the "L.Romano Rifle Co." shack !
I had talked with Larry a year or so ago about going to Winchester to see his contemporary Maynards !
I really liked the center rifle in this picture ! Although this was not a Civil War model rifle it was however the style that was used by some schuetzen shooters back in the day !
He had this rifle stocked with a nice piece of walnut and tastefully engraved ! Only problem was the $3800 price tag !

Looks like an ideal day to me! Thanks for sharing those......

I go to the Black Powder Cannon shoot here at Camp Grayling every year.
They have a 1,000 yard cannon competition and a random distance mortar competition. I get a big kick out of the brass mortars and their telltale 'PING' when they discharge.
Every year they also set up a couple hundred steel silhouettes in a 40 acre field and fire 5 or six horizontal grapeshot rounds (loads of 1-1/4" cast iron balls) at those targets. As much as I like to watch, I still get sick to my stomach watching those balls knock those plates over. I had my share of firefights in Viet Nam, but I don't know how those guys ever marched into that kind of a fusilade.
I wish they had rifles on display. Black powder is popular up here.

I heard that last weekend, there was a skirmish and one guy, 80 something years old, was hit in the shoulder by a musket ball. he was on the blue side. His comments were "they were not following the rules". Tragic incident, glad he will be okay, but I just had to smile at his comments in the text of the event.

I know they have black powder shoots for rifles and carbines up here too. I'm going to have to find out when they are. I think I'll go next summer. Problem is a busy time of year. Just have to make the time I guess...........

That wasn't a "North South Skirmish Assoc" event that was a reenactment ! At those they are not allowed to have ANY projectiles !rjohns94 wrote:I heard that last weekend, there was a skirmish and one guy, 80 something years old, was hit in the shoulder by a musket ball. he was on the blue side.
