Re: Some suggestions for new lever gun
I usually replace the rear barrel-mounted sights with Williams FP's mounted on the side of the receiver, or use the B-Square scope mounts, but when I fiddled with one of them to put in a 'dovetail blank' - I think the standard dovetail blank didn't fit because the rifle's groove was just slightly bi...

Re: High Pressure model 94 444 marlin
If you can persuade Ruger to do a No. 1 in .444 Marlin (heck, they do them in .45-70!), THAT would be the coolest; you could run pressures up into the stratosphere, use evil long, pointy bullets (think 400-500 grain in a .430 diameter), and it would sit right up there between the .416 Rigby and .458...

I have a 10/22 that I've been improving for some time. Thus far it has a Green Mountain heavy SS barrel. I put it in a Houge overmoulded stock, but it has it's own problems. I think I'll go back to the wood. The range I go to has a monthly shoot where we shoot the USBR targets. You'd be surprised w...

I have a Mark II 22/45. LOVE IT. I gave it to my daughter for her 12th birthday. She's 21 now and I'm not giving it to her until she takes the concealed carry course (NRA course) and gets the NC pistol purchase permit. I don't think she'll ever do either. I'll keep shooting it. The only thing I can complain about is that the stainless finish was good enough that any scratches really show up, and it has gotten a few; in a way, that is a compliment. Consider bead-blasting it. The .22 handgun and .45-70 rifle or the .44 Mag handgun and .22 LR rifle is the PRACTICAL answer unless you're so far from supply sources you really need to stick with one cartridge. I saw a used Puma .44 Magnum, round barrel, blued, which loaded through the tubular magazine, having the knurled end-cap, and the attachment of the magazine was with an oblong 'O' shaped ring with a screw through the middle like my Marlin 1894, instead of the flimsier attachments I've seen (no littl...

A Marlin 444 Question
Why does the Marlin .444 hold one more round in the magazine than the .45-70...?
I can't believe any small difference in cartridge length is the factor (if so, a similarly small difference in magazine tube length would allow the extra round in a .45-70!)

Re: Shooting the 22lr
I like lever actions, but since you don't reload .22 LR anyway, I don't figure it is a problem that the semiautos throw the brass all over. I think the 10/22 is supposedly more accurate than either the bolt 77/22 or the lever 96/22. It would be a 'fun' shoot to get three shooters, a 10/22, 96/22, an...

Try a Williams FP peep sight too. Rugged and many folks can keep 2" groups at 100 yards with one, although I'm not that good with a peep. Scopes are better in low-light conditions, also. Most any good lever action gun will keep inside 4" at 100 yards, I'd think, which means a clean deer ki...

I'm just a dumb midwesterner, but I hope whoever builds the next one uses a steeper pitch on the roof - even around here, we occasionally get over a foot of snow, and unless you have a very slick metal roof and it slides off, that builds up alot of weight.
