Re: help with scope dilemma
I agree with your line of thinking regarding appropriate optics for your 35. It is a shame about Leupold discontinuing its fixed power scopes. Maybe you can get a FX series 2.5x or 4x off EBay. Barring that, you may have to get a low power variable. Ironically rifles are getting shorter and scopes a...

Still have my 2001 F150 I bought new when I turned 30. Just drive her once in a while now with 232k miles. My daily commuter is a 2017 Camry-148k miles. I bought my late stepdad’s 2016 Avalon from mama. It is practically new at 58k miles. It is my luxury cruiser and spare.

This brings up a good point. I have pretty much abandoned my .45 Colt reloading project for the time being because the point of impact on my Pietta Cabela's Special hits so low with everything I've tried that I can't really use it for anything beyond making noise or maybe CAS. Both! I have a pair of original Vaqueros and my dad’s Blackhawk. The Blackhawk with its adjustable sights is easier to accommodate different loads of various weights and power levels. The Vaquero is a little sleeker looking with it’s fixed sights and probably best used with one load that shoots to t...

Re: Winchester/Miroku 45 Colt - Load Advice Please?
I think something is wrong with the rifle. Slow loads should still group better than 18 inches at 50 yards. CAS participants use slow loads all the time, granted they are closer and shoot big targets most of the time. Is the rifle brand new? Is there a possibility of a bulged barrel? Do either of th...

Re: 357 Max lever gun
I think it could be readily made by a manufacturer, but I don’t think there is easy conversion for any existing models. This is primarily due to odd intermediate cartridge length. I think a single shot (or double or combo) is the best gun for the max, even though it debuted in a stretched revolver w...

Re: New 30-30 Dies - Need Hunting Bullet Recommendations
Those 170 gr Speer bullets you are looking at have a pretty high ballistic coefficient for a flat nose. I think it would be a good choice for most anything a 30-30 is appropriate for. There’s a Nosler Partition 170 grain if you want something a bit tougher or Hornady FTX 160 grain if you want someth...

I have two tang safety M77s and two Hawkeyes, all good rifles with the Hawkeye action being the best overall. I never cared for the heavy triggers and rough actions of the Mark II 77s I handled at the time. I also have an early 77/22 with the hard plastic butt plate

Re: Hornady XTP vs. Speer Deep Curl
From those pics and velocities, one could assume the 270 grain Speer will likely not expand from a handgun, at least not in the medium they tested these in. That bullet seems pretty tough and some use it in 444 Marlin. The 240 xtp is obviously much softer

The 270 grain 44 feeds very smoothly through my Marlin and showed good accuracy. I don’t have any kills with it to report though. I would think it would at least be in the same league as the 300 grain XTP, maybe better I don’t know.
