Recently we went to a very crowded tourist trap type destination that used to be an exclusive yacht club & marina that finally had to open to the general public as its wealthy members lapsed into history. It's a happening place as they say. Thousands visit it on weekends and holidays.
There were a few disabled owner's legitimate service dogs but also scores of emotional support dogs. We witnessed a disturbance in a restaurant, in fact we were sitting right amongst it all. Some diners, including a very loudly agitated autistic child objected to the presence of a comfort dog. The whole scene was soon sorted out by the management & wait staff and a local pastor.
One interesting conversation we could not help but overhear, the minister of the gospel asked the dog's owner, "does that young lady with emotional issues that was so troubled by your dog have the right to a support animal ?"
To which the man replied indignantly, "everyone in this place has the right to have one !"
The preacher smiled and commented, "this place is nigh-on full to bursting and if everyone has the right and practiced it, there would be a couple of hundred folk & their pets. Would that situation be tenably practical ?"

Re: Emotional Support Dogs.....
It is ridiculous that "emotional support" dogs are allowed in ANY public place. I silently curse people who bring them into grocery stores and a few other places. If you need emotional support go see your shrink.

.
It’s a younger generation thing.
Kinda sad.
I get requests to ‘approve’ of them often; most are due to apartments tired of pet damage that irresponsible tenants won’t ever pay for.
Many tmes the little animals are stressed and neurotic themselves - like the person is actually the ‘support person’ for the dog/cat.
We have messed up a couple generations now with materialism and lack of responsibility - thus the result is there are more ‘liberals’.
