Re: OT - help pick bolt action caliber
Yeah, everyone has good ideas here. Pretty much settled on the 308. I have a 1903 & 1917 30-06 project guns I will get around to someday. Always thought the 1917 would go to 35 Whelen and the 03 stay a 30-06. I would like to get more info on receiver sight/scout gun setups now, Most of my guns h...

Re: OT - help pick bolt action caliber
Ok, I've been wanting another .30 cal in addition to the 30-30 Marlin I have. I'm settling in on 22, 30 and 44 calibers in all my guns. I have handloading gear but haven't used it in about 12 years, but expect to again soon. I want to get a 30 cal bolt gun (looks like 308 is the ticket) to use to st...

OT - help pick bolt action caliber
I'm looking at buying a lightweight .30 cal bolt action rifle. I live in SoCal and lead free ammo IS a consideration. I am considering .308 and .300 SAUM in a short action Remington. All I know is I used to have a 30-06 and no experience with either caliber. Let me know what you think and why. Thank...

My all time favorite camp/field gun was the Lew Horton 3 inch 624, 44 Special that I had Fuzzy Farrant make up a set of grips. Fit my hand perfectly! Up next is an older holster, Hand made by Viking, Mexico, No. 82. Not sure what it fits, over-all length is 11 1/2, looks to take a 6 to 6 1/2 barrel large frame (my N-frame fits inside, but not a proper fit, likely a SA Holster). Leather in good shape only the snaps will need some polish, thumbstra...

Plus I have my modern takedown with 50 & 65 lb limbs.

OK, got it shooting. It was an improperly assembled lifter spring.
Put about 75 rounds thru it trying to center the scope.
Scope ran out of adjustment so now I need to shim and work it some more.
Windage is close so hopefully next time out I can try to save a target.
