Time to divulge...

Post by Old Ironsights »

I finally laid hands on the Rifle (model) I've wanted for years, but finally got paranoid enough to spend my reserve FRNs on before they devalued further...

Price was under $600. Bore seems decent. Has non-standard sight in rear scope holes, but the dovetail is intact. Front bead good. Wood uncracked, but probably refinished somewhen - not that I care there.

Only real complaint is that it was dirtier than any gun I would ever LOAN, much less SELL. :? :o

AND you can use it out there!

BTW, are you fully settled in? How do you like it out there?

Congratulations on a great acquisition! It is very much like my own rifle so I can say definitively that it is a lot of fun. Great rifle!

Well I haven't exactly been able to fully unpack yet, because we just took delivery of my "man cave" (shed) for me to put my smelly gun-cleaning/lead smelting/noisy/obnoxious stuff in... but otherwise we're pretty well settled.

Yah, I'm looking ahead to deer season - among other things.

The SE corner of the state is far different from where I grew up in the Wind Rivers near South Pass (jnyork country). Down here (McDowell Land) there is this thing called "wind" that is utterly unlike anything in "the windy city". It was running in the 60+mph range on Monday out at the Prison.

As for the rifle... I'm hoping to clean it up and do some interesting things with it since it is Mag-fed... but my first deer was taken with a late 70s 99E in .308, so I have a fondness for the platform. I was hoping for a better price... but given the scarcity, and the way 99C's get bid-up on the auction sites, I feel fairly fortunate with a "buy it now" at $595...

I applied there originally, but the DOC thinks they need me more down here.

I'm hoping no longer than 5 years anyway... and then I'd try to live in Lander and commute to the Farm...

I have one just like it. It has a tight chamber so if you reload make sure you full length resize . Enjoy!
