WC-852 is too slow in the .300 Savage so that is why your velocity is a bit low. I have been using 38 grains of WC-844 surplus with various 150 grain bullets with velocities of 2566 fps. 40 grains of IMR-4064 is also giving good accuracy and velocity is close to the same. The discontinued Rx 12 is v...

Any powder with burning rates of 4198 on the fast side to 4320 on the slow end will work in the .358. I use mostly 4895, 4320, H-335, or BL-c2 in mine. For cast 200-225 grain bullets, 4895 has accuracy with velocity of around 2000 fps and is ample for whatever I want to use it on.

DixieBoy, Bravo! Thanks for telling it like it is although some won't/can't accept the facts because their mind is already made up. I had this very conversation with a history professor only a year ago. Lincon didn't free the slaves but, instead, enslaved us all.

Been gone too long!

Ever since my 'puter crashed last year I've been checking in very infrequently on an ancient laptop. Well, I got a brand new puter yesterday and am giving it a test drive. :D Boy, it seems like a long time since I've been able to access the internet without hassel and I've been missing you and all t...

.307 Winchester and .220 Swift can be formed to .303 Savage but, the .30-30 is too small at the base and has the potential to split when fired. -JDL

Adjust the barrel bands and don't hold the forend too tight, just a slight snug hold. I also hold the rifle in a shooting position by supporting my hand on the rest. -JDL

Happened to my brother years ago. He was using my Dad's 336 in .30-30 and walked up on 5 deer feeding under an oak. He slowly raised the rifle and squeezed the trigger, only for it to snap on the Super-X 150 grain. The deer made it away quick time and he came home fuming. I later picked up the cartr...

You might be intrested

"Shooting Times" magazine has a new issue out called "Book of the Winchester" and covers the '94 and 70. Lots of old articals from the 1960s to the present. A very Merry Christmas to all and a prosperous New Year! :D -JDL

Most Excellent!! Just goes to show, for best results, it's where the shot is placed. I love those rifles that have button magazines with half and half barrels. Thanks for sharing. -JDL

Update on our Dads

Our Fathers are doing so much better! Dr. said when Dad's legs are stronger and his blood sugar is under control, he can go home.
Monday, my FIL will be moved to a therpy clinic to build his leg muscles back up so he can go home. Thank you all so much for your prayers! -JDL

Although, not out of the woods yet, both my FIL and Dad are getting a bit better. FIL's blood count is coming up and Dad is undergoing therapy and responding well. Thanks very much for your help! -JDL

Hobie, That looks like a FP-99S, which was for the later 99's that had a tang safety but, it probably will work on any that is d/t for scope mounts. -JDL

Thanks so much for your prayers, a quick update. Dad failed his swallow test today so it will be necessary for a feed tube. My wife is so afraid because she doesn't think her dad has accepted Jesus, and it seems to be just a matter of time, so please ask for a change of heart in him. Thanks again -JDL

[quote="Pete44ru"] Also, don't buy a "gray rat" (self-explainitory, once you see one), no matter how cheap - since it'll never appreciate in value like one with the blueing or case coloring in good condition. They are accurate, moreso than most Winchesters & Marlins - but not...

"When it rains, it pours" is a very true statement. Last Monday evening, my Dad was put into ICU from a stroke but, now has stabalized enough to be put in a regular room a couple of hours ago. The Dr. says that he won't be as before because he is going into another state of dementia and pr...

The photographer should have had an AR-15 in the stand with him, and after taking photos eliminated the threat! I for one don't have any sympathy for wolfs or their little cousins, coyotes, and would like to eliminate as many as possible. Ask yourself a question, why were wolfs killed off years ago?...
