Re: OT, no it isn't: It's too d@*% cold for me

Today would definitely have been an indoor range day. Then again, I complain when it goes below 50 degrees. I like it warm. When it's warm there's less chance of having to scrape ice or snow off of your windshield in the morning.

Re: An idea for semi-cheap easy to make targets.

For my plinking targets, I use some old white 8 1/2 x 11 printer paper with a half-dollar sized piece of painter's masking tape in the middle. For anything beyond 25 yards, I'll bust out the color-change targets since I may not have a spotting scope with me.

Re: Puma questions

Huh. I must be recoil-sensitive. After about 50 to 60 rounds of Remington's .357 JSP through my Puma, I'm wondering why they ever went back to the steel buttplate. The first shot is bad enough, but the last shot stings pretty badly, too.

Chicago mayor and Cook County overlord Richard M. Daley threw an absolute fit on television yesterday about this. It was a beautiful thing.

Re: How did you first arrive at the Leverguns.com Forum?

I was searching for new, exciting, and possibly heretical ways to tweak my Puma 92 into being a fast-acting deer gun and defensive carbine for the truck. I may have scrapped one or two of those ideas since then, at least the idea of replacing the wooden furniture with synthetic is gone. I just want ...

Re: Two individuals close my rifle range!!

Heh. We just got a talk about that at the clean-up day at the range where my dad is a member. The whole "good aim is everything, going over the berms will lead to lots of trouble" thing. Safety is paramount, moreso at this place... since a stray shot that goes over the berm could easily la...

I slept through the first one. Then my co-workers panicked during the aftershock about six hours later. I barely noticed it. I mistook it for jet engines, actually. Though if you've got jets flying low enough to feel the engines rumbling while you're on the ground on the street where I work, somethi...

I think I have drunk deeply of the Black Hills pre-sweetened powdered beverage. To wit: I use their 180-grain JHPs in .40 S&W in my XD40. They're cleaner than Winchester and Blazer Brass FMJs in terms of leaving unburned powder in the barrel. Winchester FMJs have constantly left unburned powder ...

I was initially thinking of switching to a synthetic stock, but after seeing the refinishing job on the 92 in Steve's last post, I'm rethinking it. That's a nice simple refinish there.

I have one of Rock River Arms' ARs in .223, and it's quite a nice little carbine. What I'm going to do (and this is one of the reasons I like the AR platform) is switch out upper halves and fire other calibers off of the same lower. If I want to step up to a 6.5mm Grendel or 6.8mm Remington I can do...

I like that idea of cutting it down and adding a shotgun plate, Steve. I'm far more familiar with that kind of stock than the crescent. As I'm no woodworker of any sort, I'd probably have this done by someone else. FWiedener, you might also be correct. My other rifles (a store-branded Marlin 60 and ...

A flat butt for a Puma 92?

I'm not particularly fond of the crescent butt on my Puma 92 stock. I don't know why, it just feels odd sitting on my shoulder like it does, so I was looking to flatten out the butt a bit. I don't want to have to try jerry-rigging a Ram-Line synthetic stock for a Winchester 94 onto the rifle, but I ...

I though for a while about getting my 649 modified to use moon clips, but after seeing the prices for customization, I'll stick with the regular chambering and speed loaders for now. If I get a larger .357 any time soon, I may modify that one instead.

I've got my one and only already, the Puma 92 in .357. Now all I need to do is get it outfitted the way I'd like it and I'll be good to go.

(Though a Wild West Arms Bushwhacker in .457WW or .50 Alaskan would be a hoot and a half to own as well.)
