The 180 gr. Nosler partition id the sole cartridge I use in my old Springfield. Use 60 gr. of H-4831. Doesn't chrono all that great, avg. 5 shots 2680 fps but shoots great!

The late Jeff Cooper liked the .308 and the Remington Mdl 600 carbine. He likened that combination to something like "A gun you could stick in your back pocket and with it shoot a lion" or words to that effect.

Nosler 180 grain partition, 60 grains H-4831SC, Remington brass, Federal standard primers. Chronos 2720 fps 10 feet from muzzle. Five shot 1 1/4" at 100 yards out of an 03 Springfield original 4 groove barrel serial # 808xxx. Knocks elk for a loop.

You can trim the magazine spring for easier loading. Cowboy Action folks do this. In fact I've trimmed mine and its easier to load and the magazine will hold 10 125 gr. .357's rather than 9. Consult one of the Cowboy action sites for more info. You can trim too much off, so proceed carefully. Roundup
