Scott: If you remove the upper handguard, the caliber designation should be there. Without digging mine out, it's marked on the left side of the barrel as either "30 Army", or "30 US".

Forgot to add the other evening that BHA has a video series called "Off the Bench". One of the episodes tells how they developed the Model 89 action around the 500 S&W cartridge. It also shows how a block of steel is machined into a functioning action. Pretty impressive company.

So far Big Horn Armory hasn't made a Model 89 or Model 90 with a straight grip. I'm hoping they will though at some point. A lever action carbine with a pistol grip just looks odd, to me at least.

I was hopeful for the rebirth of the 9422 in both 22 LR and 22 Magnum, but that's probably not going to happen now. Ruger/Marlin is supposed to be reintroducing the Model 39 but their centerfire leverguns are getting the priority as far as production is concerned.

It seems that Taylor's and Company is now making a Model 1873 in 9mm called the "TC73". They showed it at the SHOT SHOW a couple of weeks ago and IIRC, it is made here in the USA. Just thought I'd pass this info along for those who desire a lever gun in 9mm.

There was an interview with well known guide and gun writer in Alaska named Phil Shoemaker who shot one with a 9mm S&W pistol at point blank range. He shot it multiple times and the bear died but he said it was a pretty scary experience.

That's a nice find. From what I understand Ruger is supposed to resurrect the Model 39 next year. Has anyone else heard this? If they do, I'd love to see that little 39 TDS with the straight grip and 16" barrel in their catalog.

Ysabel Kid wondered why nobody ever made an AR15 for the 30 Carbine round. I believe back in the late 80s early 90s, Olympic Arms did offer one. Personally I've always thought that the Ruger Mini 14 would be a good home for the 30 Carbine.

For those of you shooting these Dragoons, how well does the loading lever catch prevent the lever from falling during recoil? I realize this was a problem with the Walker which preceded them. My only experience with blackpowder revolvers has been solely with 1850 Navy and 1860 Army models.

Now that is one pretty 1886. Uberti makes so many versions of the 86, some carbine length, some with and without the tang safety. This is the nicest of them all IMO. Would love to see this one in 444 Marlin.

Looking at some Pedersoli leverguns on their website, it seems that the tang safety is not present on all models. As much as I hate tang safeties like probably most traditionalists, at least Pedersoli left the half cock in the mechanism and does not employ the rebounding hammer as found on new Winch...

Agreed about pistol grips on lever guns. The only ones I actually don't mind is the Win 65 and Win 71, although if there were a choice between pistol grip or straight stock on either, I'd take the straight one every day of the week.

Someone did that conversion with Marlin 94s. A while back, maybe like 20 yrs ago or so, Shooting TImes or Guns & Ammo had an article about it. Someone here mentioned Gary Reeder's name, it may well have been him.
