My bench is messier than your bench ...

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Will's photo of his new Lyman turret press that he got from Scott prompted me to take stock of my loading bench mess. I know this isn't a fresh idea, but here's what mine looks like at 5:35 a.m. on July 2, 2024. I have no shame and no excuses!

I think my reloading bench is somewhere under a pile of stuff, but I need to rent a backhoe to get to it... :|

Nice space Jim! Elbow room and everything.
Reminds me that I haven't used my old Lyman powder measure in many years. Just got used to fiddling with the Lee scoop set.

I use both plus home-made dippers. If you look on the top shelf the Lee scoops are there .. a set I bought back in the 1970's. They are not in CC's. :D

Jim, do I see two Lee Loaders? Mine is my one and only for 16 gauge shotgun, bought around 1969.

Wow, Will, you're a serious shotgunner. Multiple kegs of Green Dot!
You'd have a good laugh watching me try to install new .410 dies in my MEC 600 Mk V Jr without instructions in 106-degree heat this afternoon. I gave up and decided, to heck with this, I'm drinking beer.

Not my bench, which is just to the left, but my attempt at organizing my reloading area.

Hey Feller, yes, point blank and long range. 600yd mostly last few years till my health plus the years caught up with me. Been shooting my handguns and lever rifles just to keep loading and smell powder burning, hopefully I will get back to where I was and I can get back to compition again.... John

FarmerJohn, that's an epic bench you have going there!
Jay, very nicely organized and all the brass is shiny and clean. 8)
I agree with Ray you deserve some kind of an award for your scoop collection -- and your scoops are clean, too!

And notice the expansive charge throw weight charts in the corner of the foto. A lot of thought & effort went into that/those.....not just copying mister lee's published charts.

Mmm...

This isn't an accurate representation of my reloading room because I made a clean spot the other day.

I hate to say it, but the super wide angle lens makes it look A LOT better than it really is. :|

Mine is neither the messiest or the most organized and I'm glad to find that I'm in good company here. I may show some of these to the wife - "See Hon? I'm normal!" :D

"My bench is messier than your bench ..."

Undoubtedly. My bench is clean and organized so that I can always find everything with ease. At only 5' long and 2.5' wide, it has to be.

With organization, I've happily handloaded over 300K rds of 16 different calibers (7 pistol and 9 rifle) in the last 25+ years on a Dillon RL550B I learned on, then a XL650 w/casefeeder when I got into necked rifle calibers and in early 2020, the XL750 shown below.

Further, for me the joy in reloading is the zen like quality of the repetitive motions and the relaxing effect of the work so my bench is always like this. Even when reloading I put things away to keep the clutter at a minimum.
19a-Just Bench.jpg

My tumbling room is to the right of my bench out of the picture where I have my tumblers and most of my stock. Even though it's behind a closed door, it's always clean and organized as well.
