94 Marlin, 44 P, successful wild hog hunt
Hey gang,
Brought my Marlin 44 P to Florida this season. The gun has a set of Ghost Ring sights and a cross bolt safety eliminator. Have had it for about 13 years and really had fun with it on this pig hunt.
It was a guided hunt where we stalked this pig for about 45 minutes. Can't see too good now days but was able to put 2 shots about 2 inches apart in his right shoulder at 40 yards. That'll work for me.
The guide loved my Marlin and was hinting around about me selling it. That's not going to happen.
I was always a little worried about that ported barrel and usually wear electronic ear muffs. I just happened to forget them on this hunt so I was concerned about some hearing damage.
Actually, I shot it twice and never noticed the noise. My ears weren't even ringing afterwards.
Carried a Sig 239 in .357 Sig as a backup since two years ago one of these wild hogs almost killed a dog we were using. This year we hunted with no dog. Was a little worried when the guide said we were going to stalk the hog but it all turned out OK.

No, "Ashley" ghost ring sights (not sure if they still call them that).UncleBuck wrote:Nice shootin' pard. That was one big piggie. Nice lookin' rifle as well. Skinner sights?
The white painted post front sight was easy to acquire even with two wrinkled retinas .
That pig was sure rolling around in the dirt after the first shot. Surprised I got the second shot where I did (sort of lucky I guess).

Atta Boy Joe!!! Love the Marlins. Awesome.
Re: 94 Marlin, 44 P, successful wild hog hunt
.
Ashley (sights) sold out to http://www.xssights.com quite a few years ago.
I had my Marlin 1894P set up the same way, and then later added an XS LeverScout mount (topmost rifle, below).
Once I mounted a scout scope, though - I never needed the iron sights, so I removed the XS peep from the Marlin & mounted it atop the bolt of my .405 Winchester/Miroku Model 95 as a bolt peep sight.
The most endearing feature of the Marlin 1894P, IMO, was that when stalking, the rifle is short enough that it could be held in one hand, with the muzzle pointed straight down, much like a handgun - which left the other hand to part brush/etc.
If/when they can be found F/S, a minty Marlin 1894P will easily bring $850 in today's market.

Made lots of venison with a M1894. Hammer deer down. Great fotos and good job. I'm curious about the load also.

The Marlin 94 is definitely a handy carbine in any caliber. I only have one, it is also a .44 mag. I wish I had one or two in every caliber!

The guide was pretty impressed at the hole it blew through that pig.

Great job and good eating.
Re: 94 Marlin, 44 P, successful wild hog hunt
Congratulations! I'd say you got him! On our only Hog Hunt in 2010 we toted our lever rifles(one in 44 and one 356 Win.) and had a blast. They both performed very well on our pigs.

Got the meat from the processor Monday. Tried some of the "Breakfast Sausage" Tuesday night with pancakes.
It was great (first wild pig I ever tasted).

Well done, Joe.
You've got me thinkin' that I need to get out and kill some hogs.
