Hey all
I have been hovering around reading posts here for about six weeks. I am 34, I farm here in Lincoln county, TN and Madison County, AL. I have not had a tremendous amount of experience with lever action guns. When I was growing up my father had a 9422M that was the first gun I ever shot when I was about 6, and a '74 manufacture 94 in .30-30 which I shot my first deer with. I am trying to buy the farm next door to the one I live on, and to raise some cash I put some of my guns up for sale the week before the Sandy Hook shootings. I was asking $$ prices, so I didn't get any bites until the panic buying started. Anyhow, I sold my Mini-14 and my CETME for 2x-3x what I paid for them. After another week I changed my armslist ads to say i'd consider trades on the Sub2000 and SKS folder I still had for sale. This is where the story should start to sound relevant to y'all. :) I traded my Sub2000 three weeks or so ago for a Browning/Miroku B-92 (1980 manufacture) in .44 magnum. I had $299 out-the-door in the Kel Tec, so I figured I was money ahead in the long run. I already have a 10.5" super Blackhawk in .44 mag.
Few days later I swapped the SKS for a 2009 "JM" stamped Marlin 336 in .30-30 Win. I know I intend to put new sights on the Marlin, but I can't bring myself to do anything to the 92 (even though I don't much like the tall buckhorn rear sight.
I also am still on the hunt for a .45 and/or .357 carbines (I have single action rugers in those calibers too) though some of those procurements may be in the form of NEF Handi Rifle barrels for the two recievers I already have.

Anyhow, I just wanted to introduce myself and these leverguns I have recently aquired.

Welcome to the fire! If you have been looking for a while you already know there is a lot of info here and friendly sorts willing to help out.
Sounds like you made a couple good trades. I have a 92 Browning .44 and can tell you they are great shooters. Mine does have a 66 Lyman on it though.

Welcome to the stump, Jc. Sounds like you have a nice start on your levergun accumulation. Marlin 30/30's and 92's of any persuasion are among my weaknesses!

One of my friends has a Browning B92/44mag that surprised the dickens out of us by not shooting worth a hoot with 240 grain factory ammo. Turns out that Browning made a few (I have no idea how many) of these with too slow a twist to stabilize a 240 grain bullet. His shoots great with 200 to 210 grain bullets. So in case you have one of these slow twist things and it gives you problems, just shoot lighter bullets.

Thanks for the welcomes. I didn't even tell y'all the best part. Not long ago I got to handle my great-grandad's 1892 saddle ring carbine in .38-40 (I was told he bought it new in 1910). It belongs to my first cousin now. He said if I bought a box of shells we'd shoot it. Any recommendations on ammo? As it gets closer if I have any questions I may post a real post about it, and if I can get pics I'll show it to y'all. There is a 1896 manufactured .32-20 in a local pawnshop I drool over, but have never started getting the brass tacks out of the $1200 asking price.

Welcome Jc. You did great on that Browning, those are nice.

One word of caution on the H&R's make sure before you have receivers made for the rifle barrels if you intend to put rifle calibers on them. There is a difference between rifles and shotguns.

Yep. Many of the '.357' ones are on 'shotgun' frames and can't tolerate .357 Max pressures for various reasons, according to many of the Handi-experts.

Welcome to Leverguns...

P.S. I'd still have kept at least ONE of the EBR's...

Thanks for the NEF tips. Both my recievers were rifles (one was a .223/20 gauge combo and one was a .243 UltraLight), but all the additional barrels I have picked up have been shotgun barrels.

I think I'll be able to buy the same EBR guns back at something less than full blown panic prices, probably in the next three years. I know some people don't think so, but I am confident enough that I took the gamble. Maybe my $425 Mini that I sold for $900 might be worth $1800 next year, but I don't think so. I figure if one day the pickup truck that I paid $16,000 for was drawing $40,000 offers, i'd sell it. I tr ied to look at the guns the same way. Plus I figure if I need an EBRM these days I won't be able to walk down to the store without stumbling over an AR-15. In all honesty, I expect to still buy an SR556 when they drop below $999. Saw $1149, never crossed my line of a grand tho. Plus, I still have a nice 8-shot Choate 870 for a house gun.

Here's the Browning I traded for. I'm sure y'all've seen em before, but I know I should post pics or be fair game for flames. This is a good opportunity to tune my photo posting abilities. Thanks for the welcomes and the tips.

The only pic of the Marlin I have is after it was wrapped in Powerflex (horse bandages, like ACE material) to prevent scratching it up. Its my new ranch rifle, taking the SKS' place. I also hung a light on it with a spare extended shotgun magazine clamp. Next up, new sights.
