14 y/o truck...

Post by Old Ironsights »

Didn't want to, but needed a different/more fuel efficient truck. Cashed out my useless State Retirement fund(s) to buy it outright, but still, it seems to be a "better" vehicle.

Now I just need the Claymore for the receiver mount...

It looks nice and seems very practical. Best of luck with it!

I had a '91 Ford Ranger. Best truck I ever owned.

May you have as many years use as you did with the previous truck.

I had a 94 Range with a little 2.3L 4 cylinder engine. I had 250000 km (150000 miles approx) body was still great, but the electronics started to act up. I only paid 1300 kept it for 2 years and sold it for 1100 a few minor things but in general a good truck. Bit of a gutless wonder but easy on fuel. ( approx 27 mpg)
Good luck with yours.

They are great little trucks. I'm on my second one for a company vehicle. Bought the old one, an '05 V6 from the company for $1400 and gave it to my Dad. He loves it for a little work truck.
The new is a four cyl but gets much better miliage since I can run up to almost 4000 miles a month can't blame them for the down grade. :D

Hope all is good out there.

Thats a great little truck!
We have a little 2001 Ford Escape-fwd- (2.0L /5 speed) that I just wont get rid of that gets in weather like present(25city/30 highway)
What I like is when its at 1/4 tank full and you put $20 of gas in it the gauge goes to the edge of 3/4 full
With my Maxima it only barely moves the gauge.

You should love that nice ride! Congrats. (from a used to be GMC guy thats turned to a Ford guy)

OI,
As a guy who punches a clock for a living, I have always believed that when it comes to buying a vehicle, buy a common one that a billion of them have been made and one that fits your lifestyle. The car manufacturers have the bugs worked out on these types. Your new/old Ranger will take care of your transportation needs for many years to come and when it needs a new motor/trans/rear--bingo!----there's a lot of them out there to keep it running.

Yours looks "clean" and with the dry climate your in will save you lots of bucks ($$--not deer :D ) for all of your gun needs. :D

My wife drove a Ford Contour for 15 years and other than regular maintenence, did not put a dime in it----when the trans went I sold it for $500.

A buddy of mine drives a 2 cent 2 cylinder "nothing" Ford Focus. He paid something like 9 g's for it and has put a trillion? miles on it. He don't even change the oil.

Here's my 1989 Jeep with 160K on it-----turn a wrench once in a while and she's good-to-go for another 6 months. My wife and I bought it new for our son when he was 16.---now I drive it. :D I do have a newer Rubicon in the garage but with driving "good junk" all my life, I feel more comfortable in the older stuff.

On the other hand, my son feels like ne needs a new vehicle every model year, whether its a car, truck, Harley, or dirt bike. :D

Good snag! :D ------------------------Sixgun

I have a 2000 2wd 4cyl Ranger. Just a little over 160k and I get 25mpg. I paid 9k for it and after my last good year lobstering paid it off in less then a year, so that means 3 years without a payment. Besides new rims because I rotted through all 4 and 2 new U-joints because I haul a lot of wood I havnt had any issues.

My ex gf has a 2001 tacoma 4wd that I should be getting when she starts school in the fall. Nice truck but Ill be taking 7k in debt UGHH. I almost want her to sell it but it has a lot less miles then my truck and its 4wd. Im on the loan so its just a matter of me starting the payments

Although I can't stand Ford's... my son has 2003 Ranger that's served him great. It really only has two things wrong with it... a seat belt chime that NEVER shuts off, and Ford emblems.

That 70's Chevy is a classic... and will end up worth more than that Ranger when the Ranger is as old as that Chevy.

The funnest truck I had was a 73 F250, with a semi-built 390: Headers, RV cam, small four bbl, shift kit in the C6. 12 - 14 mpg and fast as a scalded cat...not race fast, but OMG fast. Drove it hard for 7 years and sold it to a buddy for what I paid for it.

Honestly, I like the C10 in "mechanical" terms... 350cid, 3speed manual, easy, easy, easy to fix.

BUT, at its BEST it's a 17mpg HWY (13 "daily") 2wd driver with an entirely wrong gear ratio. I can NOT keep the rear end from breaking free... something to do with the fact that it was geared for the 305 and not the 350. That's bad mojo in icy conditions.

Plus, wifey can't drive a Standard (sigh).

Got a few kinks to work out - the speedo/odo is off by .1mi (by statute check) - but other than that, it seems rock solid even at 135K (+/- 10%)

There is more Old Fords on the road then any other rig. That's because everyone else made it home allright. :D Just kidding, I have an 83 F250 4 x 4, but I own Chevys too.

I guess that old 83 is 28yrs old and I have owned it for at least 18yrs, but I also have an old 75 F250 that I bought new in December of 1974, it's still licensed and we still use it moslty on the farm.

The main thing I like about my old trucks is that they are still pretty simple to work on, they can take a pretty good lick without folding up, and they are paid for.

I've downsized all I'm going to.

I went from an 89 F250 4x4 with a 351, C-6, and some other goodies to a 95 Nissan Pathfinder. Truthfully I wouldn't have done the trade except the entire wiring harness in the Ford was corroded and that was really messing up the running of it.

Personally I don't think it's going to matter at all in the future. The price of gas is going to be jacked up to such a level that none of us will be able to drive.
