Marlin 94 peep

Looking to put a peep sight on my Marlin 1894, what are you all's opinions? Want to use the existing holes in the top of the reciever.

I think these WGRS sights look the cleanest. However when I mounted mine, I put another tapped hole in the receiver to move it forward from the stock position by 1/2"

I'd suggest Skinner sights. They don't need extra holes drilled and they don't hang off the rear of the receiver like some do.

XS Sights. You can get them in a set with the correct height front sight. And I like the XS front sight.

• As you can see in the above thread, my preference is strongly for the Williams FP (the FP-94 requires side-holes, and the FP-336 mounts on the existing top-holes, front or rear), 'ghost-ringed' by removing the aperture (except for bench-shooting and sighting-in). I like both the original Marlin brass-bead front, or a replacement Williams Fire-Sight, for the front (the Williams FP does NOT require replacement of your front sight).
  
  I use the Taurus Tang sight ($29 version of the Marble's) for longer 'vintage-looking' guns, mostly for target shooting, and usually with a Lyman Globe front sight.
  
  For a shorter, say 16" barreled gun, I might want for 'hogs' or other 'snap-shooting', I'll use the Marble's Bullseye rear sight, with a Williams Fire-Sight front sight.

Secondly, with the WGRS (which is nice, but less easy to sight-in; see pics in the above thread), you can also mount it backwards, instead of forwards, and it hangs over the rear less (it is really designed for the 336/1895 action, which has the rear holes further forward). Not quite as smooth a line as drilling the extra hole, but works pretty well, and well enough to try out for awhile to see if you like it enough to drill and tap for the extra hole.

The Skinner's an ecellent choice, but you're also going to need a new front sight that's higher than issue to zero the rifle, and a rear barrel sight dovetail slot filler blank to replace the removed rear bbl sight (unless it's a folder).

The Skinner (except the LoPro), the XS, and the WGRS all require a higher than issue front sight because, carrying the peep on top of their mount bases, they raise the rifle's line-of-sight more than lower peep sights.

Dr. Tim will make you a nice Patridge front sight of the proper height for $15 - he has a contact section in the middle of his website's online ordering process.

Yep. Only the Williams FP (or 5D), or a tang sight, will allow the identical front sight height.

My Williams FP has a very low profile, which is nice if you're working your way through blow-downs or brush, or just like a sight that doesn't 'stick out' too much. My 1894 didn't have 'side' holes - just the 'top' ones, so I got the FP-336,
and although it could go in either set of the top scope-mount holes, I mounted it in the front ones on my Marlin 1984, because I like it better there than in the 'normal' rear position...
