But, if I recall my firearms history correctly, the first firearms to have the term applied were the Volcanics. And it was reference to their "finger lever".

Way before our time, but for me personally it was 1968. I happened to be 5 years old then, my Grampa showed me his large lever collection of over 50 rifles, and told me straight to the point as he was holding a Winchester 1894 in 32 Special " When you get old enough to Deer Hunt with us get one of these in 32 special, or 30-30 because its the best rifle money can buy for these parts" Unfortunately I didn't listen to him until I was in my 40's. Sorry Grampa!
