You guys are awesome!
I am just relaxing in front of the PC, lookin through the topics on the forum and see the post about "Savage 99 questions".
I thought, "this might be worth lookin' at, Chuck (my father in law) gave me those two 99s before he passed".
So I go to the site recommended by casastahle, and punch in the serial number of the beautiful little, straight stocked, high gloss blue, 22" take down, 303. And to my amazement, it comes up with a 1909 year of manufacture!!! Whaa Hoo!!
This thing is in such incredible shape for being 100 years old. I still remember the day (about 35 years ago) the widowed neighbor lady walked across the yard and gave it to him, wrapped in a Levi pant leg.

Thank you for giving me such a great answer to a question I didn't know I had!
Happy shooting to ya,
OkR

***Update***

Doesn't look like a lot of shells cycled through it. The bore is mint too!

Again, thanks for all your assistance,
Happy shootin to ya,

It's good because of two main things, I think...
  • 1. Levergunners aren't as 'up tight' as some other subspecies of gun owners.

    2. The forum isn't broken up into dozens or hundreds of 'rooms' and subtopics that isolate members and require more effort to just 'browse' and learn from.

We did separate 'politics' and I suppose that is good because there are days you want to 'hide' from that stuff; I just hope the 'ostrich' effect doesn't doom our freedoms, but I see that at least 95% of gun owners do NOT do anything 'pro-gun' or 'political' beyond sending $18 a year to the NRA - and in my opinion those types don't deserve to own a gun. Responsibility comes with freedom, and firearms aren't just a cute hobby or sport - they maintain that freedom.

Doc, Absoultely agree that gun owners should/can do much more. But the real problem other than the absurdity of having to fight for our freedom/2nd Amendment Rights within our own country/people is the fact that "I wish 95% of gun owners only would have only joined the NRA" Lets see-----80 million gun owners/4 million NRA members=5% gun owners only belong to NRA(I know there are people thinking, our rights should be a given and no one should have to join anything? ya, and I wish we could just make the Liberal Gun haters/Gun lovers with a finger snap also. But the reality is even if those owning a gun/wishing to keep that gun/gun rights etc. just only did join the NRA,
The power would be to those in Government opposing Pro-Gun would be "shut your mouth and accept it" or the closest thing you will be doing working in Government will be "Nothing"If we had 80 million voting NRA members you could say"Whats Up" "Anybody got a problem"
The fact only 5% of gun owners in America belong to the NRA makes me sick!

As you can see, there's this guy is hanging around, and he insists on keeping us all "civil" and "respectable" and stuff like that...

"Hobo" or something I think is his name, but every time we'uns get a good fight goin' - HE has to come along and sober us all up. He seems to think that the mere fact that this site is called "Leverguns Forum" means that some once in awhile we shoud actually talk about "leverguns", whatever they are...

He's a real spoilsport, that's what.

Never liked them "leverguns" much in OUR family, anyways...yeah, RIGHT...!

Oklahoma Red, that is a beautiful savage in real nice condition! Someday, I'm going to get me an antique Savage.

Good rant Madman! you are preaching to the choir but it still needs to be said once in a while. I've been saying the same thing and more for years. i actually think the NRA should nominate candidates for various elected offices rather than just trying to pick the lesser evil from the Republicans and damnolrats,

Welcome aboard Oklahoma Red. With a pair of fine old Savage M-99's you'll fit right in with this bunch.

That is truely a neat gun. With it's straight stock crescent butt plate it represents really well the transitional period in firearms styling. The style of that butstock of the traditional leveractions of the 1880's-1890's mated to sleeker more streamlined firearms of the 1900's in the 99 action.

Oh, and BTW welcome. Hope you can stay awhile.
