I drove 110 miles to the Mainville Buffalo Shoot today and had a blast. Those boys put on a good show for $10. In the morning we shot at the 75 yard "running buffalo" (motorized pulley system)with pistol calibered leverguns and again with big bore leverguns. After lunch was the "main event" with 4 shots each at 200, 210, 225, 250, 280, and 300 yards. They were round steel plates from 12"-18" with a separate 6" plate next to the bigger one (only at 200, 250, and 280) and if you chose the smaller one, you got an extra point. Try hitting a 6" plate with cast bullets out to 300 yards.
I used an 1886 in 45-90 and a 1892 in 44-40 for the running buffalo and my old 1893 produced 1885 Hi-Wall in 40-82 for the "Main Event. Most everybody used 1874 sidehammer Sharps, either the nice ones from Montana or quality repo's from Italy. There were a few modern Hi-Walls and everybody shoots 45-70 except Stupido (me) Some guys have enough money wrapped up in their sights alone that are easily a weeks pay.
I did so-so on the running buffalo but......drum roll please..........the old Hi-Wall really shined and those 300 grain bullets found their way to give me 32 points and the win. Yea.........the winner got a Cadillac Escalade

There ain't nothin' like a day out with the boys doing the only thing we know how to do---lie and shoot

The boys standing around waiting their turn on the running buffalo. The first bank is 100 yards--second bank is 200 yards and the tree line (where the little white target is) is 300 yards.

Shooting at the running buffalo--its at the first bank (100 yard bank)
