Re: Smith & Wesson M1917 Value?
Jim is spot on as usual. You have a $200 paperweight, of spend a couple of bucks on it and make something interesting out of it. Looks like the acceptance marks are already gone, so trying to restore to "original" would be difficult. Even finding the correct grips these days takes a while...

Re: Smith & Wesson M1917 Value?
That hole in the bolt stop doesn't look like it was drilled. It really looks like it was rusted through or something. The cylinder has some heavy pitting marks toward the front and along the edges of the flutes. But the hole is jagged on the edges and not perfectly round. The rifling in the barrel i...

Smith & Wesson M1917 Value?
Hello gentlemen, I have not posted here in quite a while, but still browse the forums from time to time. I have an old M1917 that a guy at work is trying to get rid of. I am unfamiliar with these guns. It seems like a pretty neat little gun, but I have no idea where to start on valuing it. I've prov...

My brother had a first gen for awhile. It was a fun hunting buggy and could go anywhere, but parts were expensive, hard to find, and the vehicle was pretty complicated to work on. He recently sold it. I hope you get it built like you want! They are a blast to drive. I settled on a 1989 Jeep Cherokee...

Re: AR ponderings
Another vote here for Palmetto State Armory. They make good stuff for a good price. I built my AR for about 60% of what it would have cost me to buy it ready to shoot from one of the big brands, and is in my opinion better quality. Granted, I wasn't in a hurry and shopped a lot of PSA's sales, but y...

Check the specs on the upper before shooting the gun again. Had this very thing happen while I was shooting a friend's AR. Thanks. This may be one of the situations where a short barreled rifle may be worth dealing with the paperwork on. An 11.5" barreled gun would take down to about 20", and be very compact for handling in a vehicle or building. That's one of the reasons I've been looking very hard at the Si...
