Re: Texas outlaws Red Light Cameras.

Aurora, CO had them for more than a few years but there was an item on last year's ballot to remove them. It passed by almost 2:1. I was supposed to be effective Jan 1 of this year but they had them shut off by the end of November and most of the lights and cameras had been removed early this year.

Do what the Dr. tells you that you can do. If he/she says no shooting then don't even think about shooting until he/she gives you the go ahead. I had a cataract removed about a year ago with following PCO laser surgery. Don't know if this is what you had or not. But in reading up on what I had done ...

Re: Just might start bullet casting

When you are at the thrift store looking at pots for smelting look for cast iron or stainless steel. Aluminum gets weak when they are hot especially if there is a mechanical load on it. If it decides to let go you could easily have 20 pounds, probably a lot more, of molten lead going all over. That ...

Re: need advice on making an action wrench for '94 Wincheste

A gunsmith bud of mine tells me those 1960-70's Winchesters have their barrels screwed on really tight. It's easy to bend the sintered metal receiver so be careful. Turning it in? Good luck.---6 Some are pretty tight. Depreacher, Welcome to the fire. You are on the right track with the 1" x 2&...

Re: iron sights and old eyes

I've been using full lens readers for years with open sighted handguns although more recently I have had to add a 5/64" diopter on them to sharpen up the 50 yard targets. I have gradually been installing aperture sights on my rifles and now I don't have any with the notch type rear sight. A few...

Since that is a flat nosed bullet, you can probably just use a piece of quarter inch rod with the end filed flat as a top punch.

Re: Vertical wall mount gunrack

Leave enough clearance between the back of the upper barrel slot and the wall or upper mounting board you are mounting it on to accomodate the largest sight on your rifles. If you leave just enough room to handle iron sights and then decide to display a rifle with a scope you will need to build stan...

Re: Springfield Armory M1A ??

My understanding is that the National Match M14s were built with receivers that could not accept the full auto parts. Thus, since they were semi-auto only and never had the selector switch for full auto, they could be owned without the class III license. My gun club had 6 of these that were on loan ...

In the book mentioned above, look at the section on magazine tuning as well as the section on opening up the feed ramp. I have also found that leaving about .030 of the wadcutter ahead of the case mouth helps. The other thing I have done is to install Pachmeyer followers in all of my magazines.

Re: tortilla press, warning, picture heavy!

If your tortillas come out two thick, just use shims made from soda pop carton cardboard until you get the thickness you need. Then you can adjust the hinges to give that thickness. On mine I found that the amount of slop in the hinges was enough to give me a good thin tortilla.

Re: Tortillas

That is a nice looking press. I've found that you have to get them both flat and thin. The thinner the better. I made a press from pieces of 1x10 lumber based on pictures that I found on the 'net. It works fine but doesn't look near as nice as the one above. You just flatten them with the press. Whe...

When I used a rolling pin or a dowel to roll them out they looked like either Texas or California -- I couldn't get them round. I finally made a press out of a leftover 2x12 board I had. Re: OK - who has changed-out a levergun barrel hisself...???

A friend of mine made his barrel vise jaws by drilling an oversize hole in the wood block, centering the barrel in it, then filling the space around the barrel with bedding compound. After the compound had set up he removed the barrel and cut the block in two. This gave him a set of jaws that were c...

If a post sight will work for you look at the Marbles Sourdough sight. Get the tallest one, install it and start filing it down. It is plenty wide so you can narrow it if you want to. Brownells also has a Marlin front sight that is .385 from the top of the dovetail to the top of the sight. Your choi...

I too am just now starting to cast for rifle calibers and have chosen to start with the 30-30. Lyman catalogs a number of M dies. They generally use either the short M1 body which is about 2.88 inches long or the long M2 body which is about 3.35 inches long. For 30 caliber, you can get the 30R plug ...
