Re: How to set up the sights on a Marlin 1894C 38/357

Our 16" Winchester is dead on at 100 yds with 357 Mag (158 grain @1900 fps) and just an inch and a half off at 50 yards. 158 grain 38 Spl @ 1050 fps is dead on at 25 yards. This is all with one sight setting from the receiver sight. The rear sight is removed. I have a red line on the receiver ...

How to set up the sights on a Marlin 1894C 38/357

I need some advice on setting up my Marlin 1894C. The gun has a Lyman 66LA receiver sight, and so far I’ve left the factory rear sight on. I’ve never owned a gun with a receiver sight, nor one that shot two different rounds, so I’m having a hard time deciding how best to organize things. I’ll be hun...

Re: Is Remington-Marlin still making lever action rifles?

The Remlin 336s that I've handled seemed to be pretty nice with OK wood, but the 1894s were rough as were most of the cowboy guns. Over the past few years I have aquired a 70s era 336 in .35 and an 80s era 1894c, and both were notably nicer than the current ones and had nice triggers. Notably the ex...

Re: What tang sight to install on a Win 94 or Marlin Texan 336?

Receiver sights replaced tangs sights for a reason. You have two prime candidates for RECEIVER sights. The 94AE mounting holes for scopes make it a prime candidate for an XS. To bugger up a 336T with a tang sight is nearly sacrilegious. Of course, this is just my opinion and they are your guns. See...

What tang sight to install on a Win 94 or Marlin Texan 336?

I have a pre-safety but recent Winchester 94 30-30, and I just purchased a nice Marlin 336 Texan 30-30. One of them is going to get a tang sight. What do you guys like best? Lyman? Marbles? I know the vintage Lymans are great, i was wondering more about current production sights...if any are worth h...

Re: Score!!! Mint condition Winchester 94, pre-safety, $225.00

Congrats on your steal. In the end, you must make yourself happy if accessaries are in order? Why not shoot it or hunt with it for a season or two to see what you need on it? Steve I have added a Williams FP sight, and now the sling mount. Nothing else is needed as far as I can see. I like my lever...

Re: Score!!! Mint condition Winchester 94, pre-safety, $225.00

UPDATE: The Marlin 336 rear band fits the 94AE perfectly, so no need for the clamp on style sling mount on the magazine tube. One needs to purchase the band and screw for the Marlin 336. You need the Marlin screw because the thread is up against the head, rather than on the tip as is the Winchester...

Re: Score!!! Mint condition Winchester 94, pre-safety, $225.00

I'm curious what the manual says about the loading problem, it sounds like a problem to me. None of mine prevent me from loading more rounds at any time I want to. Some are more stiff about it. You can generally polish the rib on the back side of the gate and clear that up. The rib acts as a ramp t...

Re: Score!!! Mint condition Winchester 94, pre-safety, $225.00

Thanks to all for the replies, and sorry for the delay in responding (had a fearsome honey-do list this weekend). I'm having a little technical problem - when I load a round through the loading gate, it doesn't seem to be retained by anything...so the round slips back behind the gate. Once that hap...

I sorta figured that would be defiling the thing.

I bought ithe gun from a guy at work who bought it for that price last year and lost interest.

Score!!! Mint condition Winchester 94, pre-safety, $225.00

Bought my first Winchester levergun today...couldn't pass it up. It's a mint condition - I mean like perfect - 94AE in 30-30, pre safety with a serial number of 5,605,xxx (1984?). I've got a safe full oof Marlins, so this is something of an event (I spoke to them about it, told them that they had a ...

Re: Need some help with my new Marlin 39A.

Does anyone know if a gun marked North Haven onthe barrel was actually made in North Haven? Mine says North Haven, but it has the digital serial number on the top tang.

Re: Need some help with my new Marlin 39A.

Welcome to the fire and yes Marlin quality ain't what it was.. :( Glad you fixed it, how about a range report? Next week at the earliest I'm afraid. Looking forward to it for sure. The thing about the 39A is that it just doesn't look right with a scope, that and the scope mount for the gun l...

Re: Need some help with my new Marlin 39A.

The manual says to have the hammer in the "safety / rebound" position. Tried it cocked with no luck. The breakthrough came upon close examination of the area just behind the lever support on the left receiver half. It is ramped to center the lever and allow the two halves to come together....

Need some help with my new Marlin 39A.

So I bought a brand new 39A today. Brought it home, broke it down, and gave it a thorough cleaning and knocked off any burrs and rough spots on the action. The bolt now moves smoothly, as does the lever and lifter. Pleased with myself, I attempted to reassemble the two halves of the receiver...about...
