Re: Thinkin of getting a Henry .17hmr
I have a Henry .17 engraved Golden Boy and it is a really fun gun to shoot. Comparing the action is difficult as what is smooth for one may be rough for another shooter. As a example, the Henry is rough as compared to my Shiloh Sharps but its very smooth as compared to Winchester levers. I shoot Hor...

Re: Degreaser
If you value the Case coloring do not use any solvent on your gun. It will damage the CC.
To clean my hi end guns I use Old West Snake Oil its a finish and protector for antique guns and cases. For a wax there is Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax polish.
These are usually used in museums.

Winchester 1886 Takedown
1st its new to me
I have seen a few comments about removing the rebound function of the hammer and the safety on the tang. Is there a real reason for doing these mods?
Thanks

Re: Winchester vs Browning
The Winchester 1886 I have is just a bit different as I see it, It is a full Octagonal barrel take down model 45-70. Yes, it does have the rebound hammer and tang safety. My Browning 1886 has neither of these.

Winchester vs Browning
Well not exactly but I have obtained both a Winchester 1886 and Browning 1886 both new (company reissues) beautiful but quite a bit of difference in the two. Mainly in the actions. The Browning is smooth as silk and the lever is tight ( no side play at all) while the Winchester has a bit of side pla...
