Re: New To the Forum, Introduction, and .45 Colt load questions.

I'm still figuring out whether I like the scout scope setup or not. It came that way from the factory with the cheek piece included as well. Scope is a Nikko-Sterling 2.5x32. Not the greatest scope in the world but so far has held zero well and is clear. I may at some point switch it out for a leupo...

Well folks, you'll be happy to know that the Rossi '92 has drawn it's first blood. http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo306/rantingredneck/2011%20Deer%20Season/e2b048c1-ede5-4ab9-a7ac-5d7f88b5db78.jpg I settled on a load of 20.1 grains of Lil' Gun which is launching these 260 gr. Re: Bullet performance--sand and water, pictures

That 20ga slug sure looks like it'd make a mess if used in a self defense situation (man or beast)... Brenneke's are pure evil when they expand. My slug of choice in 12 ga. To the OP, the funniest thing we ever shot into our sand (rock dust) box were high velocity .17HMR rounds. They barely penetra...

Re: Sand backstop and penetration boxes

rantingredneck, Interesting about the rock dust. How consistent in size is it? This would be a factor for consistent results. Your 2x10 framing is better than my 2x4--more solid/stronger. The main point is if it will stop all the bullets, doesn't matter if it's real consistent. Just wondering thoug...

Re: New Members for August 2011

Thanks for letting me in and the warm welcome. As a fellow gun-forum administrator I can attest to the difficulties of separating the wheat from the chaff. At one point the board I co-administer was getting upwards of 50-60 join attempts per day with only about 8 or 9 of those being legitimate human...

Re: Sand backstop and penetration boxes

Nice work. My father in law and I built something similar a few years back. He was working at a rock quarry at the time and had ready access to rock dust. It's a bit coarser than sand, but not quite what you'd call gravel. built a box that looked similar to your first pic. 2x10 framing with plywood ...

A .45 Colt Rossi has become one of my main 'go-to' guns around the homestead: http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=31062 http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa132/AJMD429/Leverguns%20etc/Projects/PumaNightScout-ScopesOnly.jpg With the Burris Fastfire-II/LaserMax UniMax combinati...

Re: New To the Forum, Introduction, and .45 Colt load questions.

RR, Welcome to the forum. Glad you joined. I've never used Lilgun but I hear is good stuff. I just hope that 5.5" BH convertible of yours is the full sized Blackhawk and not the mid frame flattop they just brought out. Joe It is indeed the full sized and not the Lipsey's edition flattop. Made ...

Re: How many here are the do-it yourself on most things types ?

I do most home repairs myself. Built a pool deck around an above ground pool. Do most plumbing stuff myself, appliance installations, etc (dishwasher, water heater, etc). Just finished a near complete remodel of our master bath including flooring, new sink, toilet, etc. In the last 2 years have re-d...

Re: New To the Forum, Introduction, and .45 Colt load questions.

I've lived the last 12 years in the southern end of Alamance County (Graham area). I grew up in Fayetteville though and went to school at Appalachian State (class of 96). Morganton wasn't far from ASU. Had to make a couple of trips there when I was in school.

New To the Forum, Introduction, and .45 Colt load questions.

Gentlemen, I stumbled upon your fine forum while browsing for information on .45 Colt loads for Whitetail deer. More on that in a minute.... By way of introduction, I'm a life long shooter and hunter and a lifelong resident of NC. Grandfather put a Marlin Model 60 in my hands when I was 9 and it's b...
