My little friend Ciera is sick with something.
Maybe nothing, maybe something, don't know yet. School called her mom yesterday or the day before said she had a very high fever. Mom took Ciera to the ER, fever was 102°. Blood tests showed an elevated white blood cell count. They don't know why yet. She was kind of cranky, or at least more so than normal when I watched her last Sunday. So what ever this is may have been working on her then.
Her mom says this happened before when she was but 9 days old and they almost lost her. I suspect they are in pretty bad financial distress too. Ciera's mom is pretty depressed at this point.
Mom has said that they have a Dr. appointment tomorrow to find out more.
Thanks for all your prayers, I know you guys care.
Joe

Man, a grin like that is enough to melt any parent's heart. You bet she gets prayers and I hope that she gets back to where she can grin like that again in a hurry!

Thanks guys I know it will help. I suspect I got all worried up for nothing. You know how schools are a breeding ground for bugs. Probably one of those nasty child hood things.
But this little gal got under my skin real quick. I guess I'm just a big old softie inside.
I still haven't heard what the test results are, I'll post them as soon as I hear.

May God bless you and your family. May this trial strengthen you and show you the way to understanding and helping others. May your family be blessed (somehow) out of this very scary time. And may you know that there is One who truly watches over you and your loved ones, cares for you, grieves when you grieve, and smiles and laughs when you overcome tough times like these.
Prayers sent your way from California from the father of two sweet girls like you (and soon to be grandfather).
"Low potassium and low iron count." Some sort of treatment is planned at the childrens hospital in ST Louis in the future. So far there is no diagnosis of why these conditions exist.
Not knowing the why bothers me as much as the what.

What are her eating habits? It's not hard for a kid to screw up their electrolyte ballance if they don't eat right - especially in the summer.

OI,
She's ADHD. I'm not sure of her eating habits. She is highly reactive if she gets gets a caffeinated sugar filled beverage though. She winds up and is all but uncontrollable.

It will be important to find out why this happened to ensure that the appropriate treatments are given -whether diet, oral medication, or intravenous. Also to ensure this doesn't happen again in the future.
