Looking through my 44mag reloading stash if came across a bag of Remington 180 grain .430 bullets. I think that I had purchased them for some 44 special loads at one time.
Does anyone have a favorite 180grn 44mag load? This would be from a Win 94 trapper, 1:38 twist. I have a good supply of 2400 and H-110 for powders. I am looking for something a bit faster than the 240grn loads I have that run approx 1500fps. This would be a load for coyotes, stray dogs and social work. I have looked through my loading manuals and am now just looking for some experiences here from forum members.
Not 180's, but 200's with H110 shoot nice in my Rossi. According to Lyman, they're stepping out somewhere around 2000 fps. I'll buy a chrono one of these days & find out.
Check out Ken Water's "Pet Loads" book for a variety of 180gr. loads for the .44 mag. rifles. He mostly has given me my best loads in several calibers in that fine work of his. You'll find a good amount of info on the 180's in the updated .44 mag section of "Pet Loads".

Lee Jurras ran them from the AutoMag pistols and killed game out past 250 yards with them on a regular basis. Used them in Africa and the American West if memory serves me. He swore by them.

. . . but everyone KNOWS those puny little 180 grainers won't kill anything bigger than a stray cat! Certainly not a whitetail. Need a .357 or .32-20 for that!
