Question (Asking for Scott T)

Post by JimT »

He asked me, "Did all Winchester 64s have a long tang?"

I have no clue but I am pretty sure one of you all know the answer.

Thanks in advance ....

I don't really "know"... but, as far as I've ever heard or seen none of the mdl 94 variants different in frame dimensions. The mdl 55 & 64 as well as the later mdl 64A had the same tang as a 94. Madis didn't mention anything about it in his book, nor have any others in books I've read.

I think I missed the fact that the stocks have to comb further forward. Sorry about that!

Phew! Thought maybe I'd missed something important. Rifle stocks have changed over the years. As have the carbines. Mostly the carbines in changing from the gently curved buttplate with a flat on top of the comb, to the flat steel checkered and then to the plastic, both eliminating the flat area in the heel of stock.
