Marlin 1888 38-40
Marlin made very few model 1888's. They are the only top eject rifle in this size of action. 38-40 is fairly scarce chambering and the condition is exceptional...

Be still My Heart. Very Nice. Goodman Guns has the same Marlin but the screws in the receiver are badly buggered and the receiver is scratched horribly. Thanks for the post.

.38-40 is actually the most commonly found chambering for the Model 1888 Marlins. Of the 4814 made there were 1,776 made in .38-40, followed by about 50 less in .44-40, and only around 1200-1300 in .32-20WCF. This was the first Marlin that LL Hepburn helped design after coming to Marlin when Remington went bankrupt and he left.

Over the years I've seen a few such guns wind up inherited by some young punk, and sawed-off for a 'disposable truck gun'. Half the time they are too stupid to find the (often admittedly hard to get) ammunition, and wind up trying to fire whatever will fit down the chamber.
