I've heard the AOR group is less likely to ditch you or force a settlement than the USCCA group...

I dropped USCCA coverage a couple years ago. I wanted it to cover me in my "personal" life as well as when I do security for my church. They originally said they'd cover me for both, no issues. Then I heard a couple years later that they would not cover people working security, even as volunteers. I called and sure enough, they wouldn't cover me in that case. I dropped them that day.

Probably doesn't help, but I was not enamored by the deception.

AOR us a far better program. A huge negative with USAA is that when you call, after a SD incident, intially you talk to people who are NOT attorneys and everything you say to them is NOT covered under attorney-client priviledge. And, the decision to cover or not cover an incident is decided by an insurance rep NOT an attorney. I dropped usaa a couple years ago and moved over to AOR.

USCCA is neither insurance nor a law firm. Lawyers On Call may not be much better, but they are much more honest in what they are selling. USCCA is in my opinion barely above a scam in the way they market themselves.

USAA and USCCA are mentioned in almost the same breath. USAA is a major insurance company-non sequitur.

I am a 50 yr member of USAA, as a retired Army officer and Federal agent.
Never had a problem, but I also carry retired badge(s). Probably a whole lot more
valuable than USCCA. (Call YOUR personal attorney, licensed to practice in the state where incident occurred.)
Also, go to a hospital FIRST, to the ER-to be checked out. Call the PD and your atty-From the ER.

USCCA auto-renewed us, with the credit card on file, after I had TOLD them, by phone, that I planned to use a different payment method, IF we decided to renew. That was annoying, to say the least. I did not realize it, until I saw the next credit card statement. Reluctantly, I let it slide. When the next renewal date approached, I tried to use the website, to remove the credit card that was on file. Well, I could not simply remove that credit card. I could add another payment method, but, did not wish to do so.

I contacted American Express customer service, to see if I could block a transaction, ahead of time. Well, that answer was “no.”

I then contacted USCCA, to say that we would not be renewing. But, remembering the previous year, I contacted American Express, and cancelled that credit card account, to make doubly certain that were not billed for a renewal. (We had, and have, several American Express cards, so, could cancel this one, without inconvenience.)

One specific defensive case, in Louisiana, was a large part of why we did not wish to renew with USCCA. I told USCCA this, when I advised them that we would not be renewing. The name of the USCCA client was Kayla Giles. Anyone considering USCCA should look into this case.

A big part of why we had chosen USCCA, in the first place, was because a local indoor range seemed to be heavily affiliated with USCCA, and, more importantly, we were ASSURED that we WOULD be BONDED-OUT of jail, quickly, after an incident. Bond/Bail “insurance” was more important, to me, than pre-paid legal assistance. As a retired LEO, with a very distinctive surname, now older and weaker, the prospect of remaining in jail was daunting. Well, USCCA does NOT work nearly as quickly, to post bail, as we had been led to believe, and, USCCA could opt to leave us in jail, and then deny legal representation.

One aspect of USCCA coverage is that family/domestic violence will NOT be covered. The Kayle Diles case reflected this. Well, considering how much violence does involve some amount of family/domestic factors, this seriously reduces USCCA’s usefulness.
