Powder Coating Question

Post by Bronco »

Howdy All,
Who make the best powder coating powder??
I am planning on shooting some full bore slugs in my 410. I was reading that someone was powder coating the slugs to eliminate any leading. Soooo was wondering what the opinions are here about that! Also I read that a full bore slug fits the dimensions of the bore tightly! Looking to eliminate any leading once I can get the 410 slug mold I want.
Thanks in advance
John

John, I mentioned i powder coated some to try in my 20ga. It did not help any from my full rifled 20ga barrel. What worked the best with the Thug Slug from BPI was liquid alox. The groups shrank and no lead in my bore. I would try Alox first.
You probably won't get a lot of leading in a smooth bore or are you using these in a Judge, the definitely lube them.
Im curious about your results!

Oh and used a powder designed for fishing tackle, maybe that's why I had poor results. Although I did powder coat some bullets for my 25-20 and they worked ok.

I use the powder from Smoke4320 on Castboolits, too. Easy to work with.

I use powder from Eastwood, and All Powder Paints. Eastwood Ford Blue is commonly recognized as the best all around powder for cast bullets.

Try powder coating first and then try some powder coated and then coated with some lee liquid alox.
In a 35 Whelen I had, cast were so-so, same with PC, but on a whim, I tried running some PC slugs thru my lubrisizer to lube them and boy, did my Whelen like that! Maybe 1.5"@100yds at about 2100fps. The slugs were gas checked before I PC'd them.

Well the used slug mold I ordered was a scam, refund courtesy of PayPal! It was not from a mold maker rather an individual. So am looking for a mold that I want. Cases will arrive this week for fire forming. Will update as progress happens,
