'Outbags USA' Woods-loafin' or Chore Holster

Post by AJMD429 »

.
I tend to refine and be very picky about a CCW holster, and I have some others I like for various purposes, but a lot of times I just want to clip on whatever firearm would be appropriate for whatever chore or other outside activity I’m doing. I may be planting tree seedlings from the state for a wildlife plot, rototilling the garden, working on the plumbing of the house next-door, feeding the chickens, or just taking a walk around the river bottoms. So in terms of handguns, I’m not that worried about self-defense on our property, and most any kind would suffice anyway, but I might get an opportunity to eliminate a pest varmint or just want to shoot some dirt clods or whatever.

So the bottom line is, whichever handgun I'm going to take tends to vary, because sometimes I want a 22 revolver like my Single Six, but other times I want the superior accuracy of my semi auto 22. Then again, I may want to just cover most bases with my old beat up 1911. Or I might decide to make Mr. Browning shudder by carting along a Glock instead. And other times I may just dredge whatever handgun I spy in the safe that I feel must’ve been neglected for a while and needs to be taken out to get some sunshine.

Needless to say, the holster needs very, and I have come to prefer a style of belt that isn’t particularly conducive to threading all holsters through, plus it’s kind of annoying to have to do that. So for such a homestead purposes, I’ve decided that the most practical is probably a clip on OWB.

Nylon is definitely the way to go most of the time unless I’m nostalgic, and I really want leather, just because it’s cheaper, sometimes quieter, and usually a little more forgiving in terms of what guns it will accommodate, meaning, I don’t have to have as many of them.

I had gotten a lot of Uncle Mike’s holsters over the years, but of late they’ve had these plastic stitched on pieces to go around the belt, and they just tend to pull off and then you’re out of luck.

I found these two 'Outbags USA' on Amazon, and I ordered one for my single six and one for my 1911, but as you can see the 1911 model also fits my Taurus 92, which means it would fit fit a Beretta 92, and I also find it fits my Glock 19 just fine. The magazine holder will accommodate all of those magazines as well.

The Outbags USA holsters have the metal clip as well as the ability to slip the belt behind the nylon as well, as long as the belt isn’t too wide/big. When I choose not to use the metal clip my 1-1/2” Blue Alpha belt’s small-buckle end will slip behind the sewn-on nylon loop to attach that way.

My only complaint about the 22 revolver version is the cartridge loops are not perfectly sized on mine, and one of them would allow the cartridge to slip through and fall to the ground. I don’t think that’s a feature I would use anyway, certainly not on a 22, when I can carry a lot more rounds in an old pill bottle or something like that. For a similar holster and 357 or 45 colt or something I might consider using cartridge loops like that though.

They seem to be made more sturdily than the Uncle Mike's holsters, and it's a nice touch that they come with the tongue depressor and clip with a little instruction pamphlet that shows some helpful hints on getting them installed with the retention straps in the easiest manner. The brochure says that they are made by a family-owned business in the USA, adding to the appeal.

Thanks for the tip on these holsters. I have a Uncle Mikes holster almost identical to the one you have for your 1911 that I keep my P95 Ruger and a spare mag in. It has the metal clip and has been a good one, but after 15 + years it is starting to get thread bare in a few places. I may have to purchase one of these.
They are great for chores or woodsloafing or whatever.

How dare you state you use different handguns for different situations! And to suggest you pick a firearm on a whim, why that is tantamount to self defense suicide. At least that's what all the "experts" on the internet have told me over the years.

I've stated many times I'm fickle. I usually look in the safe in the morning and grab whatever strikes my fancy. The experts tell me I will make mistakes and forget how to operate handguns I've owned for decades in an emergency. As to carry method, I don't vary a lot because I find that OWB cross draw is the most comfortable for me. Here to the experts swear I will have my firearm grabbed, or be unable to draw and must use whatever is the latest trendy holster in the latest trendy position because it's the only one that works.

I've been known to carry everything from a short barreled 1860 to glocks. About the only firearm I carry consistently is my little NAA .22 mag mini. Of course the "experts" will claim it's useless for self defense, you can't manipulate one fast or accurately enough, etc. Because it rides horizontally on belt it's completely unnoticed as I go about my daily life. And guess what, it's technically an OWB cross draw.

Thanks again for the tip. Love leather, but can't afford it for all of them.
