I was able to pick this up at my FFl’s place yesterday . UPS finally got it there from WY.
Colt marked their revolvers .455 Eley instead of competitors names like Webley and some of the S&W cartridges of the time.
The New Service looks much better in person. The pictures seem to highlight the wear.
Mechanically it's perfect and the bore is excellent. The hard rubber grips are chipped a bit
but still quite functional.
I went
out to the barn looking for my .455s but they must buried under all the other cans and it's
just too darned cold to go digging around in there. Plus, there's about a half an inch of ice covering everything. Almost went down twice just walking to the barn.

What a great find, of course to me any New Service is a great find. In case you get energetic and decide to handload for it look up Ken Waters' old Pet Loads article from Handloader magazine on the Colt .455 Eley. Being quite old it may be on the web, if not check the library for the large compilation Pet Loads. You may even be able to get a reprint directly from Wolfe Publishing. Also Starline has new brass available.and Bear Creek Supply has coated soft swaged round nosed hollow based 265gr Eley bullets at a very reasonable price. Holler at me when you get tired of it.
I’ll look up the article, sounds interesting.
I’ve been reloading the.455 for a couple of decades. When I got my first Webley the only loaded ammo was either Fiocchi or the rare box of surplus.
Matt’s Bullets has a great bullet for the.455s. and I have found it to be quite accurate.
Thanks for the info, it can’t hurt to have some other opinions!!
