Loose front sight on a Ruger New Vaquero
I was out enjoying shooting my little gun yesterday and while cleaning it, I noticed that the front sight can be wiggled a little.
How does one fix this before I lose the sight?

I would send it to Ruger or to a gunsmith that I trust.

Re: Loose front sight on a Ruger New Vaquero
My only hesitation is that this one shoots to the sights and I have filed the front sight down to just the right height.

If your concern is that Ruger may not honor their warranty because you've changed something on the gun, don't worry because they intentionally make the front sights on fixed-sight guns high so that owners can custom tailor them. If you are worried about having to lower the sight again to hit at POA, measure your current sight height before you send it off and just think of the trigger time you'll get making sure the returned gun is shooting well.

Scott i have a 32 H&R baby Vaq. that the front sight came lose on,so i ran the sight over the flame of the cook stove
to heat it up a bit, then took the solder & solder gun & melted a bit of solder on both sides of the sight
just a bit as not to fill the gap full, mine is stainless so it wouldnt be a big deal, oh i used flux also
it worked for me

Walt is correct, just measure the height and you'll be back in business.
As much as I hate to say this, dribble a little crazy glue along sside the blade, let it cure , don't spray the activator or it will turn white.
Soft solder would work too.
Lots of ways to skin this cat!

When the front sight of one of my 1911's came lose, I applied a tiny amount of "JB-Weld" with the point of a toothpick. So-far so-good. It saved me the price of a staking tool from Brownell's.

I’ve been told that the repair that is often employed involves replacing the barrel with a new one with the sight installed.
I suppose I could get lucky but it has been my experience that these guns do not always line up like they should.

I've not experienced this problem before. But I have had experience with Ruger customer service. There has been times it was spectacular. But there has been a couple of flops.
I hate to say this, it'd be better to pay a gunsmith $100 or whatever to have it fixed rather than chance it to Ruger.

The superglue fix or the solder fix sounds like it should work OK and it does not do permanent damage to the gun like using a hammer and punch to "stake" the sight would. And one of those would be quick and easy!

De- grease with acetone first for the super glue of course.
