I usually open rifle season with a levergun of some sort, but this year I really wanted to try the AR that I put together in 25-45 Sharps. It proved to be exceptionally accurate with the 80 gr Barnes TTSX and a case full of A2200 pushing that copper slug to 3006 fps. Essentially a modernized 250 Savage.
My day started off quickly with deer moving all around, the rut in full swing. Mid morning a hot doe and dandy 8 point came running by at about 75 yards. She wasn't agreeing with any of his ideas, and the chase continued out of sight with them never slowing down.
Mid day I moved to another stand that has been a good producer in the afternoons. At 2:30 this 10 point came cruising by and I was able to stop him with a grunt at 50 yards, and let the little Sharps bark . He bucked, ran about 20 yards, stopped, and looked around trying to figure out what happened. I could clearly see blood running out from both sides, a few seconds later he just tipped over, done. Field dressing showed impressive damage. Both lungs were jelly, but surprisingly the entrance hole was significantly more violent than the exit. Impressive performance in a small package.

Great deer , congratulations. I’ve been a fan of the 25-45 since it came out , and wondered why it wasn’t more popular.
Never owned one, but in a Henry single shot I would be an owner.

Nice tag, Ted! Don't hear of many field experiences with this cartridge. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve never tried the 25-45 Sharps but it seems to me to be very similar to a couple cartridges John Wooters came up with in the mid 70’s for his wife and others . I think he used the 222 REM MAG case rather than the 223 . Seems to me he also made one on the 222 case . If memory serves Wooters had them made in both 6mm and 25 . He used the little Sako Vixen bolt action as the basis for his builds .
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

When the 25-45 came out I was intrigued by it. Of course I forgot about it. Now that it's come to light again it gets me thinking... I have a 700 action in 17 rem, no groundhogs around here anymore so I don't need it and the 25-45 might be a good idea!
Great buck by the way!!

VERY NICE BUCK! I hope to get a nice 10pt like that one day. I've killed bunches of 8s but never a 10. I just killed a similar looking 8 last week.
The 25-45 seems like a cool cartridge. I have a 250 savage that I plan to hunt with this year.
