winshester mod 1894 in 32.30 cal

Post by 308magtip »

My uncle left me a win 1894 in 32:40 win cal back in the 80's. His wish was my brother gets it so I passed it on to him. Rifle has a steel butt plate with a strong curve,a long full octon barrel and shoots like a dream. I had it appraised by a dealer at that time and for insurance it was at $2500.oo Any info on this now??

Value on a Winchester like that depends on condition as well as the special features that are on the gun. A stock gun will be worth less, than for an example, a gun with a special barrel length. A gun with a 25" barrel will be worth more than a gun with a standard 24" barrel.

Standard catalog length for an Winchester 94 rifle bbl is 26", whether octagon or round, short rifle is 20", carbine is 20", Trapper is 16", any variants from that are generally a custom order, although some of the Commemorative or AE models came with a 24" bbl... and in some pistol chamberings. In answer to the OP, like LeverGunner said, it depends on any special features and condition. Upgraded wood, engraving, pistol grip, set triggers, etc. I've paid as little as $200 for a standard rifle in fair condition, to as much $600 for one in like new condition. But I haven't bought one since around 2000, and all mine are in .30-30. And, I'm rather frugal... I look for the bargain, vs. something that's likely a safe queen.

I'll have to check the Winchester book, but I'm pretty sure that standard length rifle barrels are 24" for the 1894. Standard was 26" for the 1886.

Rifles in the 1894 had barrels usually 26'' long, my 1913 32-40 has a 26'' octagon barrel with a button magazine. The 32-40 is a great accurate calibre and can be hand loaded just behind a 30-30 if you want to drive it a bit harder. 32-40's seem to be common in Australia with the button magazine very common even on carbines. I have loaded mine with 170 grain coated lead bullets driven to 1920 FPS with 28 grains of AR2208 - Varget without any pressure signs or leading.
