That is how hog hunting is viewed by most in an official status in Virginia, especially in the Soil Conservation Service and Department of Game. They blame hunters for the demand that drives crooked outfitters to release piglets all over the place, dramatically increasing the spread of hog populations.

I can See it All....in the affluent suburbs of the big cities Hogs running wild in every yard rootin and eating everything in sight. THEN there will be He** to pay when a billion $$ of fancy grass and landscaping is destroyed.....We have longtime Friends who live in a well off suburb of Cleveland where deer a as common as birds in the trees. Their yard usually looks like a zoo .Deer everywhere. and nothing is done about it. I say let our Vice President be in charge of the "Root Cause of the Hog problem"......

Had a thought that likely won't work, but, no hunting, no trapping, just let them eat everything in sight and the entire population crash from starvation?!! Of course we'll starve too when the farmers can't raise crops enough to feed US!

It's a reaction based on no scientific findings at all. To say hogs got smarter because they are hunted is just plain silly. Their claim that it makes trapping efforts less successful is even sillier. If hogs don't fall for their traps at night, then maybe hogs are getting wise to traps, not avoiding traps because they're being hunted during the daytime hours!
If they really believe that hogs are getting wise to hunters going after them during the day, then why not let hunters go after hogs 24 hrs. a day? Then if their theory is true the hogs will learn there is no safe time and simply leave the state!

Vall, in this part of Texas, it seems everyone has an AR with $3,000 worth of night vision optics and mounted on a $500 tripod specifically for assassinating hogs after dark. It's the darnedest thing. Texas is like being in a different country sometimes.

The idea is eliminate hogs by trapping entire sounders instead of scattering them to create more sounders.

Well I always wished we had hogs to hunt, but in my area, and many counties I know of there aren't any. There's one big hollow I know for sure where there's some, but that's only place I know of. Big Siuth Fork area only place I've heard of with any to amount to anything! But their reasoning and diagnosis IMO makes about as much sense as putting ketchup on a fresh hot homemade peach pie!
