Re: 22LR Ammo recall
I have found Remington sub sonics to be inconsistent in the past, I would only buy them if nothing else was available.

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
The Remington 'thunderbolt ' has been the most inconsistent stuff I've run across. And of course I have 8 or 10 bricks of it! Hey I got it for next to nothing

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
As stated Remington is my least favorite rimfire ammo and like many here may have fired a few hundred 1000 of them from different manufactures.
It is not the critic who counts
Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Forty years ago I exclusively used Remington 37 grain HP ammunition to squirrel hunt with because it was very accurate out of my 10/22. All of the bullets were wax coated and crimped well, no loose bullets.
I recently bought a 100 round plastic tray of the 37 gr HP's and they were very inconsistent with many flyers. I noticed that some bullets were out of round and some were loose in the case.
I can only assume that the tooling that Remington uses is worn out or they just don't care about quality.

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Remington rimfire is the worst.
Lotsa misfires, not all that accurate, etc.
I'll buy anything else available before I buy that stuff.

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
I’ve got one 22 that absolutely loves Thunderbolt. Crunchy wax and all.
Kind regards,

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Each gun is a different story but I seem to never get misfires with Federal or CCI ammo. Armscorps is pretty good too.
But I seem to get misfires with Remington

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
I had some federal that no matter what gun I tried them in they would not go off. I sent them back to federal and they replaced them. Then one day months later I heard metal bouncing around in the dryer.
Yup it was a single federal .22. Seems I washed close to a box of those 22s in a pocket and not knowing any better I sent federal ammo that was clean!

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
I bought 10,000 rounds of Armscorps .22 Long Rifle standard velocity ammo a few months back. I’ve fired over 2,500 rounds so far without a single malfunction. Good stuff.
Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Remington Thunderbolt, as mentioned, is pretty poor although the recent batches of Federal 325 packs in the blue boxes give it a run for defining bad ammo.
Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Well that's disappointing, as I'd come to think the Federal stuff was ok. I guess things 'evolve' over time.
I try to buy a box or two of 50 every time I am at the farm store, and the brand varies, so I guess whatever the state of affairs is, I'll not have all my eggs in one basket.

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Anything "Golden" raises my suspicion. Remington even sold round balls for muzzleloaders coated with their tacky gold wash.
Re: 22LR Ammo recall
I have had good luck with Aquila and most anything CCI. My Federal was bought in bulk packs at least 20 years ago--good stuff!! Subsonic is usually CCI subsonic hp or Norma match
Re: 22LR Ammo recall
This was just the 325 round blue bulk packs from WalMart. FWIW the Federal AutoMatch .22 bulk packs have been good consistent ammo, and a couple bucks cheaper than the blue box.AJMD429 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 6:24 amWell that's disappointing, as I'd come to think the Federal stuff was ok. Re: 22LR Ammo recall
It's not just the bulk boxes either. I grabbed an older 50-count box of Remington subsonic to test my new-to-me Uberti in my basement range, and 1/4th the rounds would not load! I tried them in one of my Ruger 10/22's, and they jammed up the magazine! Worthless stuff.
I know it wasn't either gun; both worked fine with CCI's.

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
My favorite general-plinking bulk ammo was Winchester Wildcats. Always had good luck with them. And I have boxes from K-Mart when they used to sell ammo and firearms (and used to be in business!) marked $7.98/brick of 500!

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Isn’t it a shame that after all these years and millions or rounds that any ammunition company can screw up .22 shells?

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
Yep. If Remington did "recalls" for ammo with lotsa' duds there wouldn't be any Remington 22's left in the wild.

Re: 22LR Ammo recall
I just got out the fifth brick which means that I’ve fired 4,000 rounds without a single misfire.
