OT - SP101 in socal

Post by bsaride »

Well after 4 trips to the indoor ranges trying different guns,
we have decided on the SP101 for mom. I would like to know
if there were ever any 3 inch guns made with adj sights?

Also if anyone knows of a good indoor range in the Corona, Riverside
area for purchase/training/practice that info would be great.

Thanks,
Jay

Just curious, why do you need adjustable sights on the SP101?

The new .327 models have the sights, but why anyone would need them, I'd be curious to know.

When trying the other guns it seemed easier for her to aim with the adj. sights
I know they may be like pullin hens teeth to find but thought I'd ask anyhow.

Anyone have a link to the 327 performance?
I have no idea where this falls in performance level.

It falls in .357 Mag performance level. Go to Gunblast.com for Jeff Quinn's test.

BTW, I don't think that the .357 Mag SP101s EVER had adjustable sights.

IMO one of the best things about them. Teach your Mom quick skill technique. For a defense arm using the sights is a tactical problem, it exposes the gun more than necessary... but that's just me I imagine.

First thing will be professional instruction.
Kind of like the 327 after looking at gunblast.
Will see what she thinks and try to find a rental
for her to try. I like the idea of 6 shots and adj sights.

thanks

My sw mod 24 44spcl has adj sites and 3'' barrel.
My sw mod 15 38spcl has adj sites and 2'' barrel
My diamondback has adj sites also and2.5''barrel.

Never owned a sp101. They shoot good?

Get a set of Crimson Traces and the sights will be moot in a defensive situation.

There were a few S&W M36's made with adjustable sights. I think it might have been a limited edition by Lew Horton IIRC.

I have one of the Ruger SP101's in 327 Federal !

When I ordered it I also ordered a Bianchi High Ride holster and some Hogue grips !

The little revolver is a nice handy little package !

Haven't gotten around to loading for it but the El Cheapo American Eagle ammo shot alright in it !

I was shooting at 50 meter chickens and having pretty decent results
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

It has adjustable sights .

To me it's like a light 357 MAG .

I also think the Hogue grip makes it a much more uhm comfortable little gun to hold . The stock grips do not fit my hand so well . But then I have a fairly large paw :!:

Here's the little revolver with the Hougue grips on !

Here it is in the Bianchi holster !

For comparison here's the 327 Federal beside my little Ruger Single Six 32 MAG !

And here are a empty 32 MAG case and an empty 327 Federal case . Again just for comparison !

IIRC some of the custom 'smiths like Clements do conversions that put a S&W J-Frame adjusatble sight on them...
