First, I must say I have struck a deal with 45704me for his Browning 1895 and he is just the best guy to deal with!
It's not here yet so no pictures.
I have not reloaded for 30-06 before and was hoping I could get some guidance for a good load for the Browning.
I figure the largest animal it will hunt will be Mule Deer, so the loads do not need to be heavy weights.
What I'm looking for is a good medium game load that I can target practice with.
So what is your favorite all around 30-06 load?

Both loads shot tiny groups with my 1895 Browning.

I am getting good results with winchester cases, a max charge of H4831, CCI large rifle primers and a 180 Grain Sierra gameking. It is a fast accurate load. I have taken 118 whitetails in 119 shots (no misses-- 1 second shot required) with this loading.

180's also shoot the best in my 1895 Browning.buckeyeshooter wrote:I am getting good results with winchester cases, a max charge of H4831, CCI large rifle primers and a 180 Grain Sierra gameking. I was hoping for a trend. Most of my loading will be with jacketed bullets, so far the 180's are looking good, Thanks!

Re: Browning/Winchester 1895 30-06 Loads?
I load for one and it also shoots 180's. My friend who owns it had a bunch of IMR 4831, so that's what we used and it shoots great (for open sights). We did a group buy on 180 grain Corlokt's and used 58 grains of IMR4831. Pretty stout load. You wouldn't want to go shoot prairie dogs all day with it, but it sure works on deer and elk.
Re: Browning/Winchester 1895 30-06 Loads?
I had a problem with the 180 corelocks. They shot great , but that was because of the ogive would touch the rifling. Short throat .So if you wanted to eject a loaded shell you can't. I picked up some speer 180's that have a different ogive but haven't had a chance to try some loads. I used 55 grains of H4350 , which was Ken Water's most accurate pet loads. It is a accurate load, but that was with the bullet touching the rifling.

My best '06 load is the 165 Interlock & 57.0 IMR4350. Groups real nice out to 300 yards in my M70.
My '95 dates about 1912, and the only bullet it cares for is the 220.

My 1924 vintage '06 SRC thrives on the 150 Sierra and 47 grains of IMR 4895. It kills deer very nicely. I may try the little gun on Colorado elk this coming November, but will up the bullet to 180.
