"Vietnam Wall" -- An Amazing Image...
I only got near The Wall once, but it was at night and we only had 10 minutes... Still, it was a humbling moment even in the darkness and cold.
But this image is simply amazing...
We're on the right side, while all those souls who made the extreme sacrifice are on the left...

A sad thing but a beautiful image of it.

Wow! Now that's a helluva picture. As an occasional photographer I am
I was a Navy guy -- first the ship Navy and then the boat Navy. No buddies ended up on the wall. I suppose the kid who, first day on the ship, walked too close behind one of the jets and got blown off the flight deck wearing a backpack full of aircraft tie-down cables: he's there on the wall but I never knew him. The pilot who was coming in wounded, lined up perfect for landing on the carrier but was still going 400 knots and became a splatter of matter across the deck. He'll be on the wall but I was a ships electronics guy and didn't know any of the pilots. The boat crew loaded with ammo that took a mortar and she all went off and vaporized -- they'll be on the wall but I just knew them as faces to say hi to. Couple guys from my high school class on the wall but not any of the gang I hung with: of that old high school gang I was the only one who ended up in the military. But the sight of the wall still gets the old eyes to get kinda' watery. And that's an amazing shot of the wall. Thanks for finding that one, 7.
And who was the photographer?

Funny how the girl who designed the wall wanted it to be something to cause negative feelings. It turned out that she did something good in spite of her bad intentions. E'en the best laid plans of mice and men aft gang agly.
Thank GOD for such things.

Thank God my names not on it. But then they kept me stateside where we kill as many each year in car wrecks as were killed in all those years in Nam. If I'd only signed that extension and gone to helicopter flight school then I too would most likely be on the wall. Long time ago.

It may have been a long time ago, but we should never forget. Whatever we think of it, either good or bad, it needs to be remembered. Without a memory of where we have been and what we have done we are lost.

Re: "Vietnam Wall" -- An Amazing Image...
I've been to The Wall several times, and it is always very moving. Last weekend one of the "traveling walls" was in the town next to mine. I took my wife on the last day, as she has never seen either (the real one or one of the moving displays). We saw the closing ceremony, and it was incredible.
Re: "Vietnam Wall" -- An Amazing Image...
A little girl working on an art project which she hoped would cause "negative feelings" would have no concept of how deeply men feel about such things.
My understanding is that she worked with a vision of a deep, black, scar in the earth, not quite a grave, with men's names all over it.
IMO, it is a thing impossible to view without tears welling. I dunno... Maybe that's what she meant by "negative feelings."
It is a stirring tribute to those men whose names are preserved and made immortal upon it.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I've never managed to see it without getting something in my eye...

Not shopped. Not even a really great photo. But means more to me than any pretty picture.
See ya buddy. A lot sooner than later now.
