Thought you guys would appreciate this. Big thanks to marlinman, Val, for all of his help with this one. Serial number puts it about 1889. According to Val only about 1200 were made with the double set triggers and being a .38-55 makes it even more unusual. Regards. 1886.

Thank you very much for those photos. I have great appreciation for old classic rifle like that and to see those photos is a real treat.

28" barrel, trigger breaks cleanly at 3.5lbs, the set trigger trips with just the slightest touch, it weighs 7.8lbs, and balances beautifully being slightly muzzle heavy. A real gem. Range report for J Miller coming. Thanks. 1886.
Even an old winchester loon like myself likes that alot !
I have been rescerching alot latly, and discoverd the the 38/55 was origionaly a marlin cartridge, developed as a target round for a marlin ballard rifle.
So, that kind of puts into a context where the set trigger makes sence.
I bet if you could turn the clock back , and look at that rifle in the store where it was bought it was a very spendy item for its day, and even more so, 100 ands some years later.
