Finally, The Alaskan Camper Was Delivered
Not all that big or fancy, but built like a Swiss Watch. It hydraulically raises with a button. Has Full Solar and Shore Power. I've been running the NovaCool Fridge and the power vent for a week and the Zamp solar panel has kept the twin batteries fully charged. Propane furnace, twin burner cooktop, and water heater. Outside shower. One full size bed just big enough for me. I've got a Thetford Porta Potty in the cabinet made for the potty. 27 Gal of water.
This is the last big hurrah and I hope the health holds up long enough to get lots of use out of it.
The F-250 6.2 gasoline gets about 15 and a hair on the road. Down from 17 and a hair before the camper went on.
As soon as the dentist stops taking all my gas money, I'll be going down the road

Very nice, are you taking off for Alaska soon ? That's probably where I would be headed.

I'd be a felon the second I crossed into Canada....I wonder if I can bypass Canadian gun laws if I take a ferry?daisygordoninc wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:12 pm Very nice, are you taking off for Alaska soon ? That's probably where I would be headed.

Congratulations. Sounds like a good rig.
There may be some places left in the USA where you can camp. Are there any states that you have not visited?

Go to Seattle and take the Alaskan ferry right to Alaska. Bypass Canada that way.BlaineG wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:19 pmI'd be a felon the second I crossed into Canada....I wonder if I can bypass Canadian gun laws if I take a ferry?daisygordoninc wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:12 pm Very nice, are you taking off for Alaska soon ? That, to me, is the way to go. No aggravation pulling a trailer/5th wheel along with increased focus on driving. A buddy of mine has one like that...hydraulically lifts up....he loves it.

Not been north of New York. I got to find a fool-proof secret place for a small handgun in the camper someplace....There are several states where I can't legally carry. I'll bet some of them are ok if it's locked in a case.

Pretty as a speckled pup. You can always come to my place. It would be a LONG tiring trip for you, or anyone, but I've got water, power, and room. It's the front door to the big woods. we're also a gun friendly state, only a few rules, mostly common sense. use extra caution when driving at night, cause you cant see the moose. Lots of fatalities cause the 'newbys' think they know it all.
If you decide to come this way, give a heads up.

Re: Finally, The Alaskan Camper Was Delivered
What fun can that thing Be???....most people spend around 30k on a camper and the park it with hundreds of other ones complete with hookups and cable T.V. and then they beat their chest and tell all the people at work they went camping again. .
On a serious note that is one fine looking setup. I hope You get lots of use from it. Enjoy.

Re: Finally, The Alaskan Camper Was Delivered
It's pretty clear you don't know me whatsoever. My idea of HELL is a "campground" full of drunks and screaming brats. When I'm traveling, I'll pull into a rest area, a truck stop or more likely I'll locate the nearest 24 hour WallyWorld and use their bathroom and stock up for the next day. When I'm actually camping, I'll go up a forest service road and won't be around anybody..45colt wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 8:11 am What fun can that thing Be???....most people spend around 30k on a camper and the park it with hundreds of other ones complete with hookups and cable T.V. and then they beat their chest and tell all the people at work they went camping again. .

Oh man...I can see it now......me eating cheap hot dogs, Pitchy with his rum and coke, Jay with that sea weed stuff he eats, lets throw in Griff and O.S with Griff eating hot peppers from Mexico and OS with the California "soft stuff" all combined with Blaine wolfing down fast food cheeseburgers .......all of us in his new camper blasting away...and not with guns. Blaine would have to trade it in...at the very least, fumigated. ----6

Got this spot in the middle of a couple hundred acres. Right in front of my Jeep is this trout stream. Nice and quiet.......well, till we show up!

Blaine, that is a nice setup. Small enough to handle easily, yet large enough for extended trips. I'm trying to decide what I want to get that can easily be towed by by CJ-8. I'm looking for something that collapses.

I really liked those A-Frame campers. Hard sides and as few or as many bells and whistles ya want. Thing is, I would have taken even a small trailer up a forest road and got pickled at a dead end or cul de sac...I can turn this one around pretty easy.

Re: Finally, The Alaskan Camper Was Delivered
I had a patient who went camping and fishing with his family every year in Canada; he smuggled a Redhawk through once, but instead of risking it each year, he buried it in a remote area where he could retrieve it each year.
He's passed away now, so maybe it's still up there...
Canadian "gun laws" really are STUPID if you can't pack a big-bore handgun when camping in remote bear-country..

Nice rig, Blaine. If you come down to anywhere near Dallas, give me a shout. I will try to arrange a visit.

Re: Finally, The Alaskan Camper Was Delivered
Yea that can't pack handgun thing in Canada is really crazy. My hunting guide is a timber cruiser when
he isn't hunting. He isn't allowed to pack and a couple of summers ago he was attacked by a black
bear. On the 3rd charge his dogs got into the middle of it and he was saved. All he had was an axe.
Of course the granola lovers don't believe black bears attack, but sometimes they do.

Yeah, that Ford Diesel was just too much extra...over 10K more. That Ram EcoDiesel was probably the nicest truck I've ever had, except it didn't have the load abilitiy and only had the real short bed. I decided I didn't want to pull a trailer up the forest service (logging) roads, so....Ji in Hawaii wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 5:48 am Boy I've been out of your vehicle loop for awhile I see. Nice rig, that should keep the weather off you for a while. Stop by if youre in the neighborhood.
RE: Canada, their country, their laws. They somehow get by without having pistols around in the hills, but it wouldnt be my choice. I did survive the trips through without issue however. Its not a problem to take long guns. You can ship your handguns by common carrier (meaning not US Mail)from yourself to yourself in care of somebody in AK if you want to go. I believe there are people in AK that have that service available. Not an FFL, but as a shipping receiver service for individuals.
I drove it 3 times both ways, it was a heck of a lot of fun. They didnt care much about long guns so long as they werent military type detachable mag semi autos.
One thing Canadians can do we cant is short barrel shotguns without any special paperwork. I believe Ive seen 12" guns that people have there.
