I was in one of my favorite shops today looking for a Schofield Top Break clone and spotted this USFA Rodeo "Storekeeper" in 45 Colt with 3.5" barrel with ejector rod and matte blueing. I've been lusting after a USFA SAA clone for some years now, and then this unique little "stubby" reaches out and dope-slaps me through the display case glass . . .
Love at first sight. What a handy, well-balanced piece! I compared it to the similar Ruger Vaquero Montado single action and found out that I couldn't see the brightly polished sights on the Ruger, but I did like the lower "Bisley" style hammer of the Vaquero Montado. The USFA's sights were just fine, and of course it had the "4-click" three-screw lockwork of an 1873 Colt SA. Then the shop owner told me that the Storekeeper is one of a limited run of just fifty (50) such guns and the S/N bore witness to that. No matter; this little gem is going to see some serious trigger time.

I've seen, handled, and fired the so-called "Sheriff" model SAs without the ejector rod, and quite frankly I found to be missing something. Like an ejector rod.
It really is a neat config, you are quite correct.

My USFA has a 4 inch barrel and it just comes alive in my hand. I had Dustin Linebaugh make a set of one-piece ivory grips and I don't have a better handling gun.
MOST EXCELLENT!!! That SHINES!! I think I would have had to want to give that one a home too. Best of luck with it and I look forward to your range reports.

Huh. I never crossed paths with the Cimarron offering. That brand is not popular in my neck of the woods. Dealers tend to stock and customers seem to ask for Ruger, Beretta, Uberti, Taylors, and USFA.
Thanks for the reference; I may have to pay them some more attention.

I know this is a "lever guns" forum, but I just don't see single-action revolvers as being "OT". Leverguns and sixguns just go together so well!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

The short barreled, ejector, guns ... especially with the bird's head grip are my favorite SAAs. There's a nickel gun in 45 with ivory grips in that very configuration that has been calling my name for months now.

Here is a old 1906 colt I had fixed up for awhile like that. I still have the barrel and ejector. I put the 7 1/2 barrel back on later. Also am showing a cimmeron that I have.

Its neat having something different. I never did care for the sheriffs models without the ejector housing. Yours is just like a sherriffs, but with it. It really ought to make a nice ....everything gun--well, except for long range shooting. A few years ago I could have had a Colt SA 3rd. from the Custom Shop just like the one you just got. I was short about $1500 so I let it go. I think it was 1595. ------------Sixgun

i have a pair of the rodeos seperated by one number
they have to be the nicest revolvers i have.
smoother then even my dan wessons, and they are accurate.
nice trigger pulls.........wax poetic here........
have worn about half the finish off them though.
keep your loads on the light side with 200 to 250 cast bullets
of the softer variety, you will wear out a reloader shootin that thing.

I missed out on a Rodeo in .44 Special also. I got the yips and bought a .45 Colt Rodeo because I could get my hands on it and, lo and behold, the .44 special shows up. I should have figured out a way to get that one too!

Sweet sixgun! I have "visited" with one of these at a local dealer, but it would take a painful trade to latch onto it, and I will content myself with my shorter and longer USFA and Colt sixguns for now, especially as my Ruger Montado is so very close to the same thing, with 3.75" of barrel and an ejector rod. The matte black finish certainly would seem to make the USFA Storekeeper a bit more friendly to the eyes when trying to get a sight picture.
Have Colts, will travel.
