Barnes TSX and the .307

Post by xxclaro »

Today I bought some TSX 150gr. FP bullets, which I intend to load for my .307 BB. Can I use regular load data for this bullet, or does one need to use specific Barnes data? I know the standard Barnes bullets used special load data due to higher pressure's, but am wondering if the TSX is different, due to the grooves which are intended to lower pressure, if I understand things properly. Has anyone used this bullet in the .307? I'd be very interested in any loads anyone might be able to suggest.

From what I've read, the TSX is fine with regular loading data, just start 10% low as usual and work up from their.

I wish they made a .358 fp TSX....

Yeah, a.358 would be great. Thought about cutting some down for the .356, but at their price I'm waiting for someone else to try first.

If you email Barnes they may have some 307 data to use. If so, they usually email it to you in PDF format.

They usually say the max load will usually be 1-2 gr OVER the max loads listed for the older "X" bullet. But if you have no "X" bullet data, you're back to square one.

What I've been doing on my Barnes 375 TSX project is using load data for the 200gr lead core bullets, with the 185gr TSX bullets, and so on.

So far have run into ZERO overpressure issues. My 185gr bullets are running at similar velocities to the 200's (2400+ with H4198).

For the 35's, that 200gr TSX with the tip cut and the nose hollowed out would most likely perform as well as a 250gr lead core.
