So.....i picked this up in trade today. JM Marlin 30-30. The stock has a coin that says "Round Up Commemorative". It's in good shape but need some love. The stock and forearm needs refinished. The bluing is shot. But the bore looks good. The action is pretty smooth.

Don't believe I've ever seen that one before, and I look at every lever I see. Any guess to the age of it by the serial number? I'm thinking 70"s maybe.?

I think you have gotten a nice rifle congratulations. You can restore it or leave it as is & either way you'll have a good rifle.
I'd be interested in hearing how well it shoots when you get it to the range.
That's the kind I like to get -- don't need to worry about using it and marking it up a bit. You didn't waste any time getting to work on it!
And just in case it exhibits "Marlin jam #1" (some modest percentage of the old guns do that) return here for directions if you don't already know all about it.
