Vintage Eley-kynoch 30-30 Ammo.

Post by cshold »

Notice the intricate crimp on this 1950's ammo.
Looks to be quality round.
Any of you ever use or experience this brand of ammo. first hand?

cs,
I have a similar box but it is not in as good a shape as yours. I have not fired any of the rounds.

Chuck,
I think you are right. I dissected one of the cartridges and the powder was in strands as long as the body of the shell.

I have read that cases loaded with cordite had the case outside, neck and shoulder, formed AFTER the powder was installed due to the size and shape of the propellant. Sounds like a PITA to make to me !!!
Those are collectible for sure.

It is a safe bet that similar boxes of 30-30 ammo dropped train loads of meat game animals and quite a few lion and big cats in Africa!

Hi All, first post here. Being a Brit and a bit of a collector as well as a shooter I also have a box of these in 30-30 plus some .303 and .270 all in complete boxes so I have never felt the urge to shoot them, especially as the 30-30 is very easy to load for.

Shooting is a minority sport over here so far less people own firearms, this means when old boxes of ammunition like this do show up they are invariably thrown in the nearest river or pond for fear of being prosecuted/locked up. Luckily I can hold such stuff so it goes in the armoury, latest 'hand-ins' include some .222 and a good handful of original 5mm pinfire :D
